Summary of Function: Working with the Director of Education, the Associate Director of Education is responsible for the general supervision and management of the K-8 school, secondary and adult education. This includes counseling, registration, administration; and liaison with provincial schools serving Mi’gmaq learners.
Job Duties:
- To supervise and provide guidance to the school administration in the growth of their leadership skills and management of the schools.
- To support and coach the administrative teams in the performance management of their staff, and to conduct performance appraisals of all direct
- To supervise and support the organization of the schools (instructional, cultural, linguistic, student services, summer school services).
- To provide educational leadership in highly effective pedagogical approaches to learning that promote school improvement and student success
- To oversee and support school improvement initiatives designed to enhance the culture and curriculum, mindful of student retention and the increase of student enrolment.
- To work with the Enhancement Program in order to build the program as an innovative, culturally and linguistically rich learning environment that supports the growth of the whole student.
- To oversee collaborative projects with other organizations and institutions, both internal and external to the community.
- To liaise with outside provincial schools and agencies to ensure best transitions for students.
- To remain informed of developments in New Brunswick and Quebec education platforms, and of emerging trends in education.
- To seek out innovative projects that would enhance programming and support the Listuguj Education Directorate strategic plan and the related Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government’s Comprehensive Community Plan (CCP).
- To support the Director of Education in building an education team responsive to the needs of the Mi’gmaq learners.
- In conjunction with the Director of Education, collaborate with the Curriculum Unit in the development and implementation of a curriculum that meets the needs of the Mi’gmaq, English and French immersion streams.
Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Education, with 5 years of experience as a Principal or Vice Principal and/or completion of Educational Leadership Certificate.
- Knowledge of Listuguj Education operations and/or experience in working with Indigenous educational systems.
- Proficiency in Mi’gmaq language and French language is an asset.
- Some local and long-distance travel may be required.
- Ability to pass a criminal background/Vulnerable Sector check.
