About this opportunity:

Cenovus is currently looking for a Staff Rotating Equipment Engineer to join our team located in the Calgary office.

Collaborating with the Principal, Rotating Equipment, this position will provide technical support and domain expertise to Canadian Thermal & Conventional Heavy Oil (CTCHO) as required for rotating equipment.

The Staff Rotating Equipment Engineer is a specialized abilities, with a heavy focus on reciprocating and oil flooded screw compression and in particular typical Alberta packaged equipment.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide technical support and domain expertise to CTCHO as required for rotating equipment

    • Major Projects and Facilities Engineering

    • Operations and Maintenance

    • Reliability and Asset Management

    • Supply Chain

  • Provide technical support and advice to projects on the selection, specification, fabrication, testing, installation, and commissioning of rotating equipment. May include shop testing for equipment.

  • Provide support to day-to-day operations by solving and optimizing rotating equipment operations

  • Provide support to facility reliability by performing failure analysis and providing repair and modification directions

  • Develop and maintain rotating equipment technical specifications and procedures

  • Manage Contractual Service Agreements with vendors for select equipment

  • Develop and maintain condition-based maintenance program for rotating equipment, including re-evaluating program for business value

  • Provide mentorship to junior level engineers and technician as required.

Who you are:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

  • A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering

  • Professional Engineer designation that is recognized by APEGA is required

  • A minimum of 12 years of related experience specifically to rotating equipment and expertise with reciprocating, centrifugal and screw gas compressors is required.

  • Experience with gas turbines is an asset.

  • Experience in both project support and day to day operations support.

  • Industrial experience in Machinery Manufacturing, Vendor Field Support, and/or Oil Industry/Pulp or paper mill/mining.

  • Excellent understanding of SAGD process and equipment.

  • Must be highly familiar with relevant industry codes and standards, including API, ASME, ABSA, CEC, ISO.

  • Good computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office applications.

  • Knowledge in and experience with safe work practices in an oil industry environment.

  • Well-developed communication and presentation skills to communicate to all levels of an organization.

  • Strong analytical skills to identify key issues based on relevant data and provide fit for purpose recommendations.

  • Strong collaboration and leadership skills with proven track record to influence collaborators.

  • Field travel is required approximately 20% of the time.
