About this opportunity:
The Senior Commercial Contracts Advisor enables Cenovus’s commercial strategies by independently managing the end-to-end lifecycle of standard and non-standard commodity agreements with external counterparties, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and proper documentation. Key deliverables include negotiating and executing commodity agreements across a range of products, as well as maintaining complete and accurate contract records. The successful candidate is highly detail-oriented, communicates clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing, works independently in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities, and demonstrates sound judgment through thoughtful questioning and thorough analysis to achieve well-supported outcomes.

What you’ll do:
Manages the execution, administration, and retention of a diverse portfolio of commodity contracts, including crude oil, natural gas, NGLs, refined products, carbon credits, guarantees, and confidentiality agreements across multiple transportation modes.
Partners with Front Office and cross-functional support teams (Credit, Legal, Tax, Accounting, Insurance, Customs, and Risk Compliance) to draft, negotiate, review, and amend commodity purchase and sale agreements.
Acts as a primary representative for Cenovus in engagements with marketing and trading counterparties, leading negotiations and resolving contractual matters.
Applies subject matter expertise and sound judgment to identify trends and business needs, contributing to the development, standardization, and continuous improvement of contract precedents and practices.
Maintains strong awareness of industry trends, market practices, and regulatory considerations impacting commodity marketing agreements.
Serves as a key business user for Enterprise Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) systems, supporting contract execution, system enhancements, and process improvements (Allegro, RightAngle, Egistix).
Who you are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
Legally authorized to work in Canada
Bachelor’s degree in business or a related discipline.
Minimum of 8+ years of experience negotiating commodity purchase and sale contracts.
Proven experience drafting, reviewing, negotiating, executing, and administering both standard and non-standard commodity agreements.
Strong knowledge of commodity marketing agreements, including crude oil, natural gas, NGLs, refined products, carbon credits, guarantees, and confidentiality agreements.
Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse portfolio of contracts across multiple commodities and transportation modes.
Experience partnering with cross-functional internal stakeholders, including Front Office, Legal, Credit, Tax, Accounting, Insurance, Customs, and Risk & Compliance.
Experience engaging directly with external counterparties and resolving complex contractual matters through effective negotiation and sound judgment.
Working knowledge of Incoterms and their application within commodity transactions.
Understanding of industry trends, market practices, and regulatory considerations relevant to commodity marketing.
Advanced working knowledge of Enterprise Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) systems, including Allegro, RightAngle, and Egistix.
