About this opportunity:

The People Services Analytics & Strategic Planning team is seeking a Manager, People Services Data & Analytics to drive the evolution of people analytics at Cenovus. This role blends strategic vision with disciplined execution - translating complex workforce data into clear, actionable insights that inform decision-making across Human Resources, Communications, Workplace & Real Estate, and senior leadership, including the Board of Directors.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Workforce Planning & Analytics, you will lead a high-performing analytics team while shaping the end-to-end people data strategy, from data architecture and modeling through visualization, storytelling, and executive reporting. Success in this role requires strong leadership, deep technical fluency, and the ability to uncover the “so what” behind the data to influence business outcomes.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop and execute the People Services analytics strategy, aligning priorities to enterprise objectives and ensuring disciplined delivery against firm timelines.

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of analytics professionals, fostering accountability, technical excellence, and strong business partnership.

  • Provide oversight of end-to-end people data architecture and modeling (including Power BI data models and upstream data flows), ensuring solutions are scalable, reliable, and fit for purpose.

  • Translate complex workforce data into clear themes, narratives, and insights that inform strategic decision-making, including executive- and Board-level reporting.

  • Establish structured, scalable self-service dashboard solutions that empower People Services, Centres of Excellence, and leaders with timely, privacy-conscious insights.

  • Guide rigorous analytical practices, including validation of assumptions, data integrity checks, and clear documentation of methodologies and definitions.

  • Oversee the design and governance of Power BI environments (datasets, workspaces, dashboards, apps, and audience management), balancing enterprise consistency with stakeholder flexibility.

  • Partner cross-functionally with stakeholders, including HRIS, HR Operations, Workplace & Real Estate, and Data & Information Technology to align on data flows, governance considerations, and evolving operating models.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.

  • 10+ years of progressive people leadership experience, with a proven ability to build, coach, and develop high-performing teams while driving accountability for outcomes and firm deadlines.

  • 12+ years of experience in data analytics, advanced analytics, or data science, including translating complex, multifaceted data into actionable business insights.

  • Strong expertise in data engineering and data management concepts, including data architecture, end-to-end data flows, data transformations, and data modeling-particularly within Power BI environments (datasets, workspaces, dashboards, governance, and audience management).

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret complex data, identify meaningful themes and root causes, and translate findings into clear, compelling narratives that influence both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate assumptions, risks, implications, and recommendations at all organizational levels, including executive stakeholders.

  • Proven commitment to advancing data literacy and enabling scalable self-serve analytics through clear standards, coaching, and structured visualization practices.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related discipline considered an asset.

  • Experience working with HR and people data would be considered an asset.

We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement.
