THE ROLE

The Community Recreation Manager plays an important role, providing quality leisure programs, services and facilities to our military members and their families.

Our services are tailored to help families with the challenges they may face due to military life and make the most of everyday activities such as going to the playground or day camp. We believe that when members of the Canadian Armed Forces are able to take good care of themselves and their families, they can do better both at home and at work. Whether families need to sign the kids up for swimming lessons, improve their fitness, make friends in a new community, our services are here to help.

You will have a diverse portfolio, providing programs to preschoolers, to adults and seniors. Each day will be different as you lead and manage the department and operations of community fitness, sports, arts and culture programming, and oversee services such as libraries and membership offices. You will have a chance to expand your skills and share your passions as you mentor junior staff and volunteers all with the goal of improving the quality of life for our military.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED

Education, Certifications and Licenses

College diploma or certificate in Recreation, Leisure Studies, or Community Development, or a related field

Current AED, CPR and Basic First Aid qualifications

HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development or HIGH FIVE Sport (successful completion by end of probation)

HIGH FIVE QUEST 2 (successful completion by end of probation)

HIGH FIVE Healthy Minds for Healthy Children (successful completion by end of probation)

Experience

In planning, managing, controlling and evaluating the operations and delivery of recreation, aquatic and water safety programs

In writing, interpreting, applying policies, procedures, regulations, and applicable legislation

In strategic business and financial planning

In budget administration

In personnel administration

In collecting, analyzing and reporting data for the purpose of program evaluations

In group facilitation, training and team building

In inventory control and loss prevention

In project management

In marketing and publicity including the use of social media

Competencies, Skills and Abilities

Client focus, organizational knowledge, communication, innovation, teamwork and leadership

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

English Essential / Bilingual an asset

Reading: Advanced

Writing: Functional

Oral: Advanced
