Supporting BMO’s CAO & CHRO, BMO FG (from hereon referred to as CAO), this role reports to the COO, PC&B. As a strategic enabler, the role is accountable for leading, integrating and translating strategies and information to promote the effective operation of PC&B; together with the COO, People Culture & Brand driving integration, simplicity and effectiveness across BMO’s PC&B function, and serving as a key driver of our performance agenda. As a key member of the PC&B Leadership team and People & Culture Operating Committee, this individual works closely with the CAO and the COO, People Culture and Brand to develop and execute strategic plans, driving operational excellence and fostering a high-performance Winning Culture. The role is accountable for optimizing senior team effectiveness (PC&B LT and PCOC), developing and optimizing strategic operating and governance mechanisms in support of PC&B LT and PCOC. Making recommendations to drive multi-year planning, prioritization, integration and execution of strategies and initiatives across the function, the role will reach deep into the spine of PC&B to catalyse and inspire matrix delivery against PC&B Leadership’s core objectives. This role will work closely with senior leadership to drive our Winning Culture forward, to develop and implement broad and innovative engagement, knowledge sharing and development strategies. The role will act as a credible influencer and central point of contact for the Office of the CAO and works in close proximity to the COO, People Culture and Brand, the CFO PC&B, Business Management across PC&B, & Corporate Communications to ensure the integration, optimization, and successful execution against core objectives. The individual will need to be a strong strategic generalist, with business, financial and strategic acumen able to collaborate with senior leadership across organizational boundaries to ensure progress on the broader group’s priorities.

Direct & Trusted Advisor Support to the CAO & CHRO, BMO FG

  • Serves as trusted advisor to CAO

  • Leads operational management for the office of the CAO

    • In collaboration with Corporate Communications

      • Leads in defining the communication frame and plan for the CAO both internally and externally, building and delivering a strong brand, aligning communications to overarching strategy and positively influencing behaviour more broadly across PC&B

      • Develops and executes communications strategies that improve employees’ and key stakeholders’ understanding of the strategic direction, reinforcing Winning Culture and imparting the expected behaviours and actions necessary to drive business performance

      • Provides strategic counsel on community/industry events and directs and coordinates the logistics of these events

      • Engages with external stakeholders to identify partnership and media opportunities, speaking engagements, industry events and thought leader forum participation on behalf of the CAO

  • Works closely with the CAO Executive Assistant to optimize scheduling for CAO commitments, ensuring adequate time and focus on highest impact items. Leads and optimizes the executive’s office operations, including planning, prioritization, and meeting agenda

  • Supports the CAO’s direct output through strategic presentations as required both internally and externally, preparing briefing materials, reports, presentations, and executive updates. Scopes, plans, and executes multiple, often quick-turnaround projects and requests with minimal outside assistance and with pace

  • Prepares business results and strategic narrative on behalf of the Group Head for presentation and review with BMO C-level leaders in various forums

  • Presents innovative ideas for special projects or initiatives that might advance the CAO’s leadership’s objectives

  • Collaborates with the CAO and other executives to set performance goals and targets

  • Defines and delivers roll up mechanisms for performance tracking across PC&B against the CAO strategic objectives and goals

  • Provides thought leadership and insights on key industry trends that foster and develop a culture of innovation and high performance

  • Acts as the primary point of contact for inquiries to the CAO, managing the process and communication and follow up to key stakeholders, including with regulators

  • Sets a continuous improvement agenda, identifying and resolving bottlenecks and inefficiencies within key organizational processes

  • Leads content development, working through others for PAF meetings and for 1/4ly Financial and Risk attestations in support of the office of the CAO

Strategic Support to Senior Leadership in PC&B (PC&B LT and PCOC)

  • Works closely with the COO, People Culture and Brand to identify mechanisms to drive towards integration and simplification across PC&B

  • Works closely with the COO & CFO of PC&B to track, understand and report on financial progress

  • Provides direction and support for the CAO and her leadership teams, prioritizing where time is spent, integrating teams, workstreams and breaking down silos to deliver critical work

  • Works closely with PC&B Risk groups and the COO, PC&B to ensure effective and streamlined delivery of core risk processes, including quarterly attestation for the CAO

  • For PC&B Leadership Team and People and Culture Operating Committee:

    • Works with and influences senior leaders, bringing forward continuous improvement ideas to optimize governance structures/content and strategic planning approach

    • Sets the frame for governance mechanisms, bringing new innovative ideas and ways of working to optimize collaboration across PC&B and PeCu

    • Leads the orchestration, sequencing and strategic content for PC&B LT and PCOC meetings

    • Envisions and creates a performance metric framework (OKR’s) for PCB LT and PCOC to bring integrated transparency to operational effectiveness and the downstream impact on strategy planning; works through and across PC&B to identify and gather metrics at the appropriate strategic level

    • Leads and owns the annual Strategic Planning and reporting process across PC&B to enable effective multi-year planning, prioritization and execution of PC&B’s strategy in support of BMO’s objectives and ambitions; as a key integrator for the overall strategic road map, brings innovation, best practices and coordinates the PC&B planning process

    • Together with MD HRBP and the CAO, drives senior leader team effectiveness

    • Integrates information from multiple sources to enable more efficient processes, enhanced analysis and/or streamlined reporting

    • Provides thought leadership and guidance on ongoing strategic decisions to optimize results, developing, planning, and monitoring strategies for the highest priority opportunities to drive performance

  • Acts as a trusted advisor to senior leaders to manage cross-functional strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment across departments

Broader PC&B

  • Leads change management activities, ensuring cross business/group coordination and logistical support for the implementation of change

  • Together with Corporate Communications, strategically manages PC&B communication channels to amplify key messages, engage team and drive action

  • Provides strategic direction on the implementation of digital engagement platforms e.g., 10,000 Coffees, Microsoft Viva etc.

  • Plans and executes division-wide events on behalf of CAO including townhalls, business strategy sessions, senior leader forums and other innovative activities/events to bring people together

  • Partners with key stakeholders to plan and roll-out enterprise programs and special events including community efforts such as Employee Giving Campaign

  • Partners with Winning Culture Activators to develop strategies for advancing winning culture within People, Culture & Brand

  • Is curious and actively engages within the spine of PC&B to understand ‘pulse’ of organization as input into shaping engagement strategy

  • With a small team of two, is adept at matrix managing output for the CAO across organizational silos; inspiring resources across the organization to deliver against collective goals and outcomes, partnering with various PC&B strategic advisors and influencing how these teams work together

  • Fosters strong internal and external networks and works with and across multiple teams to achieve business objectives

Qualifications:

  • Post secondary education

  • 10+ years experience in financial services

  • Management/strategic consulting an asset

Please note the base salary range for this position is CDN $160,000.00 to CDN $190,000.00
