The Director, Personal Lending Credit Strategy and Portfolio Performance, is part of Credit Risk Management function in a collaborative environment that supports Consumer Unsecured Lending segment of the bank, including Line of Credit, Personal Loans, Student Loans, Overdraft Protection, etc. The incumbent will have high visibility to senior executives and will be a recognized contributor who impacts the client experience and bank’s results. Some main responsibilities are:

  • Acts as a key point of contact and trust advisor for the lines of business in all product initiatives and discussions pertaining to operating within risk appetite, providing independent risk oversight, and ensuring that growth initiatives are optimized for both risk and return.
  • Leads a high performing team to develop and maintain acquisition strategies using analytical solutions to enable high-quality, fact-based decisions for a designated risk portfolio, within Personal Lending segment.
  • Oversees portfolio performance and account management activities and optimizes the quality of unsecured lending books.
  • Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of business product strategies and related risk management requirements and legislative/regulatory directives throughout the customer lifecycle.

Additional (optional)

  • Acts as a trusted advisor to senior leaders for making business decisions and implementing strategic initiatives.
  • Interprets new regulations and assesses impacts to the risk strategy framework.
  • Identifies emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making.
  • Measures the effectiveness of risk decision strategy management framework; recommends changes as required.
  • Acts as the prime contact for internal/external stakeholder relationships, which may include regulators.
  • Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of business product strategies and related risk management requirements and legislative/ regulatory directives.
  • Works with stakeholders to identify the business requirements, understand the profitability structure, the risk / return assessment and the expected outcomes.
  • Works with data owners to discover and select available data sources from internal sources and external vendors (e.g. lending system, payment system, external credit rating system) to fulfill analytical needs.
  • Consults with stakeholders to improve consistency and transparency of risk measurement, metrics and reporting.
  • Influences how teams/groups work together.
  • Anticipates trends and responds by implementing appropriate changes
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Typically 10+ years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Expert product knowledge for the unsecured portfolio risk management
  • Expert knowledge of risk management theory, processes and portfolio management reporting techniques.
  • Expert knowledge of modelling & analytics concepts and applications for problem solving.
  • Technical leader viewed as a thought leader for innovation.
  • Verbal & written communication skills - Expert.
  • Influence skills - Expert.
  • Collaboration & team skills; with a focus on cross-group collaboration - Expert
  • Able to manage ambiguity.

Salary:

$103,500.00 - $192,500.00

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
