Role Purpose

The Associate Director, Business Initiatives - Data Analytics is responsible for delivering high‑quality analytical insights on the Commercial Lending portfolio within Private Wealth. The role supports senior leadership through data‑driven analysis, executive‑level presentations, and ongoing monitoring of portfolio trends, risks, and performance.

This role operates independently, integrates data from multiple source systems, and acts as a project manager for several concurrent analytical and business initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Analytics & Insights

  • Analyze Commercial Lending portfolio data to identify trends, concentration risks, performance drivers, and emerging issues.
  • Synthesize complex data into clear, actionable insights for senior leadership.
  • Perform ad‑hoc and recurring analysis to support strategic decisions, risk discussions, and governance forums.

Executive Reporting & Presentations

  • Develop high‑quality presentations, dashboards, and briefing materials for senior management, committees, and executive forums.
  • Translate complex technical analysis into concise decision-oriented narratives suitable for non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and clarity across all reporting deliverables.
  • Ensure analytical outputs are governance, audit, and regulator‑ready, supporting effective risk oversight and management reporting.

Data Management & Integration

  • Work with data sourced from multiple systems (e.g., loan platforms, risk systems, financial reporting tools).
  • Reconcile and validate data to ensure integrity and reliability of analysis.
  • Develop repeatable analytical frameworks, models, and templates to improve efficiency and reporting consistency.

Project Management

  • Act as project manager on multiple small‑to‑medium business initiatives, including analytical enhancements, reporting improvements, and process optimization efforts.
  • Manage timelines, deliverables, and dependencies; proactively manage risks and issues.
  • Coordinate across stakeholders to ensure successful execution and delivery.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner closely with Credit, Risk, Finance, Technology, and Business teams.
  • Serve as a trusted analytical resource for leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Communicate findings clearly and confidently, both verbally and in writing.

Required Skills & Capabilities

Analytical & Technical

  • Strong Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), with advanced Excel expertise in data modelling, pivot tables, and complex formulas.
  • Exposure to data visualization platforms (e.g., Power BI) is an asset.
  • Strong ability to analyze large datasets and integrate information from multiple sources.
  • Experience producing structured analysis and executive‑level reporting.

Communication

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to distill complex data into clear, compelling messages.
  • Comfortable presenting insights and recommendations to senior leadership.

Project & Self‑Management

  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Strong project management skills with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision.

Judgement & Problem Solving

  • Strong critical thinking and analytical judgment.
  • Ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and drive outcomes.
  • Comfortable operating in an ambiguous, fast‑paced environment.

Experience & Qualifications

  • University degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Analytics, or a related field.
  • 5-8 years of relevant experience in analytics, business initiatives, commercial lending, credit, or financial services.
  • Experience within Private Wealth, Commercial Banking, or a regulated financial environment preferred.
  • Exposure to credit portfolios, lending data, or risk reporting is an asset.
  • Strong data querying and analytical capabilities, leveraging tools such as SQL, SAS, and AQT
  • Experience with BMO systems and applications (e.g., APMS, LTS, Livelink, RRT, Spotfire, SharePoint) is an asset.

Salary:

$69 000,00 - $129 000,00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
