The Team
At BC Timber Sales (BCTS) in the Peace-Liard business area, you'll join an experienced team of about 25 dedicated forestry professionals. As a member of the Operations Team, you will work closely with sales, harvesting, and engineering staff to implement operational plans. This team plays a vital role in ensuring British Columbians benefit from the sustainable management of public timber, creating jobs in our communities. The Role
As the Operations Technologist, you will be responsible for developing operating standards, implementing innovative forest management practices, and overseeing contract and technical activities. You’ll ensure compliance with legislative and environmental standards while offering expertise in areas like tenure development, road and block layout, silviculture, and contract administration. By contributing to sustainable forestry, you’ll help generate revenue that funds essential public services such as highways, hospitals, and schools. This position offers the opportunity to build valuable connections in forestry, work in diverse environments, and gain broad, hands-on experience.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Graduation from an approved technical institute with a diploma or degree in resource or forestry management and three (3) years of experience in one (1) or more operational field forestry activities, OR
- An equivalent combination of education or experience such as five (5) years of experience in one (1) or more area of operational field forestry.
Operational field forestry activities include the following:

- Timber harvesting monitoring/conformance
- Cut-block development
- Forest road engineering
- Silviculture
- Timber tenure development and administration
- Applicants must be registered or eligible for registration with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) as a Registered Forest Technologist or equivalent.
- Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.
Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
- Specific operational field-based forestry experience in tenure development, road and block layout, or timber tenure administration.
- Experience in contract or financial administration.

About this Position:
This position can be based out of either of the locations listed above.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill temporary and permanent vacancies.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.

Note: "Immediately eligible for registration" means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the process of obtaining full registration with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.
Applicants who are currently registered, or eligible for registration within six (6) months of employment, with FPBC as a Trainee Forest Technologist (TFT), Allied Science Trainee Forest Technologist (ASTFT), or related designation may be considered at a lower classification.
