Job Summary

The Adoption and Permanency Branch is responsible supporting adoption and timely permanency planning for children and youth in care throughout the Ministry of Children and Family Development, Delegated Aboriginal Agencies and the practice oversight of Licensed Adoption Agency.

The Team Leader, Adoptions and Permanency leads and directs a multi-disciplinary team to ensure that best practices are followed in the delivery of adoption and permanency planning services for children and youth who are in the continuing care of the Ministry and Delegated Aboriginal Agencies.

An effective leader, you serve as a positive role model for your team, promoting a collaborative and productive work environment and ensuring timely service delivery. You possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to assist with complex and sensitive issues using diplomacy and sound judgment.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work or in Child & Youth Care OR Master's Graduate Level Degree in Counselling, Clinical Psychology or Social Work with a practicum in family and child welfare, AND
  • Minimum five (5) years child welfare practice or child welfare practice support experience with a focus on any of the following areas: Guardianship, Adoption, Resources, Family Service or Child Protection, AND
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience [within the last 5 years] providing direct leadership and clinical supervision of care plans and home studies to a team of social program officers, AND
  • Current delegation under the Adoption Act OR Candidates who had delegation under the Adoption Act and worked in a delegated position in BC within the past 2 years.

PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN TO APPLICANTS WITH ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:

  • Completion of SAFE tool training and SAFE for supervisors.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities (First Nations, Métis or Inuit).
  • Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

Provisos:

  • Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which includes a Criminal Record Check and a Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e., from another Canadian Province).
  • May be required to periodically work evenings or weekends.
  • Extensive travel within the province, as necessary, is a requirement; therefore, transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the ministry.
  • May be required to travel in adverse weather conditions.
  • May be required to use your own vehicle, with appropriate insurance, on an expense account basis.

NOTE:

  • All education credentials will be subject to verification and validation as per ministry process.
  • If education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered; OR A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to four (4) days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement.
