The Ministry of Municipal Affairs helps make B.C. communities great places to live by taking leadership in supporting local governments, not-for-profit organizations and residents to build vibrant and healthy communities that are well governed, liveable, safe and diverse as well as economically, socially and environmentally resilient. The Ministry supports newcomers to settle and integrate into the province, facilitates economic immigration to address B.C.’s labour market needs and attracts international entrepreneurs.

In this role, you will become part of a team working to improve the social and economic integration of newcomers to BC. The Immigration Policy and Integration Branch is responsible for the design and delivery of provincial immigration settlement and integration programs that ensure successful integration of newcomers. Key programs include the BC Newcomer Services Program, Safe Haven, Career Paths for Skilled Immigrants program, along with other strategic initiatives. The Branch received a Top Unit Work Award in 2022, which is awarded to work units with the top 20 percent engagement scores across the public service.

This position is responsible for administering all aspects of a wide variety of contracted services including preparing, tendering, and awarding contracts. The Contract Officer works closely with the Manager and other program staff to ensure that government contract and procurement procedures are being followed as well to oversee complex financial information related to contracts.

Job Requirements:

  • Diploma in business or a related field and 6 months related experience; OR

  • Certificate or coursework in business, contract management or a related field and 1-year related experience; OR

  • Secondary School graduation (Dogwood, GED) and 2 years related experience; OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Related experience includes the following:

  • Experience preparing, tendering, and awarding contracts.

  • Experience processing payments for contracts, applying general finance and administrative policies and processes.

Preference may be given to candidates with:

  • Experience monitoring budgets, conducting financial forecasts and analysis.

  • Experience in contract administration in a public sector environment.

  • Experience related to settlement and integration of newcomers.

  • Completion of coursework in financial and/or contract administration/ contract management.
