We invite applications for the position of:

Mechanic

As a vital part of our Operations team, this position is responsible for the repairs and maintenance of the district vehicles, equipment and buses and will work under supervision of the Mechanical Coordinator and Transportation Manager.

Successful applicants will have:

Completed Grade 12;

Interprovincial Automotive Service Technician Trade Certification with an Interprovincial Commercial Transport Vehicle Trade Certification or an Interprovincial Heavy Duty Technician Trade Certification;

Class 2 Drivers license with Air Endorsement;

Eligibility to work under the British Columbia Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) Vehicle Inspection Program;

Proven experience and demonstrated skills in the use and techniques of tools, equipment and safety precautions pertaining to the use and maintenance of the district fleet vehicles and equipment;

Practical experience with electronic system diagnosis, electronic injection systems, diesel, electric and natural gas powered vehicles including vehicle components, such as air brake systems, automatic transmissions, air bag systems and hydraulic systems;

Ability to carry, lift, push and pull awkward or large heavy objects up to 50 lbs. or more.

Applicants will be expected to:

Repair and maintain district vehicles including school buses, vans and trucks and districts equipment including mowers, snow blowers, grass cutting equipment, generators, bobcat, excavators and any other equipment owned by the district;

Complete service and inspections on commercial vehicles;

Keep work area(s) clean and organized;

Establish and maintain professional relationships with co-workers, district staff, and the public;

Be self-motivated and able to work within a team environment and/or work alone with minimum supervision;

Complete the required District's Health & Safety training.

This is full time continuing position starting as soon as possible, working 40 hours per week at a wage rate of $38.98 per hour , plus a comprehensive employee benefit package including extended health and dental coverage, short term and long-term disability insurance and participation in a defined benefit pension plan.
