What the day will look like
  • Underwriting new business, renewal, and endorsement according to guidelines and authority limits. Refer files along with summary and recommended course of action for those accounts outside underwriting authority and exceptions to guidelines.
  • Assist in developing, enhancing and maintaining underwriting methods and techniques, which achieve underwriting integrity in a cost-effective manner.
  • Work semi-independently and make decisions on individual risk selection and acceptance.
  • Negotiate and bind terms, conditions and premiums for accounts at inception and upon renewal within individual assigned portfolio and authority level.
  • Responsible for production to generate new business opportunities and retain existing accounts which meet the Company’s strategies and underwriting guidelines.
  • Provide forecasting for new and renewal business under designated binding authorities.
  • Participate in self-development activities to improve or develop knowledge of underwriting or business-related subjects.
  • Perform various other duties as directed by the Underwriting Director
  • Responsible for claims review and assessment on individual files
  • Performing other related duties, as assigned.

These products support the Sports and Entertainment industry and involve collaboration with brokers nationwide. They will report to the Underwriting Director and can expand their knowledge internally and through industry events and courses.

Skills and experience that will lead to success
  • French / English bilingualism is required due to the frequent interactions with clients, colleagues, or partners based in Quebec, other Canadian provinces and/or internationally.
  • College Diploma or University degree with equivalent experience accepted
  • CIP designation and/or RIBO license in progress preferred
  • 3+ years or more experience in Commercial Property/Casualty underwriting
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a background with a MGA or specialty insurer
  • Basic knowledge of policy wordings
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, decision making and negotiating skills
  • Independent thinker and self-starter
  • Excellent communication & leadership skills; committed team player.
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient computer skills in: MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Travel requirements: 5%
