Description
Come and join our team at Sturgeon Community Hospital! As the Unit Clerk you are the “hub” of your unit and provide relief to the Outpatient Department, Orthopaedic Clinic, Diabetes Clinic and IV Clinic. You will coordinate patient appointments and process referrals for the Diabetes Clinic and the Orthopaedic Consult Line. You will play a key role in training and orientation of new staff to all ambulatory clinics and foster a positive team environment by facilitating communication between Physicians, nursing, outpatient clinic staff, other health disciplines, departments, patients and families. The Unit Clerk performs reception duties including managing the telephones, registering patients for clinic appointments, preparing electronic charts for patient visits, managing referrals and waitlists, contacting and advising patients of appointments and/or laboratory and diagnostic tests including required preparation, and requests lab reports. In addition, you will perform general administrative duties which include but are not limited to photocopying and distributing correspondence; order supplies and assists with program support activities. In these busy clinics, you will be responsible to transcribe and process doctors’ orders including medication orders, laboratory orders, diagnostic imaging orders, and treatment orders and ensure an adequate level of supplies and equipment are available on the unit. You will have strong communication, professionalism, teamwork and customer service skills; be self-directed and possess the ability to work independently; demonstrate critical thinking, time management, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills; accurately collect & document information in a timely manner; and be adaptable in an environment with constant interruptions and short timelines.
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
1 year experience in an Ambulatory Clinics focused on Orthopaedic and Diabetic care within the last 3 years. Experience using connect care within the past year. Experience using Microsoft Office and Excel.
Experience as an Unit Clerk in an outpatient/ambulatory clinic setting. Knowledge of Endoscopy, Diabetes and Orthopedics medical terminology. Experience with all connect care systems - Lumens Front Desk Scheduler, Clinic Referrals, Schegistrar, Registration Basics, Template Builder. Experience with Health Information Management (HIM) or document management.
