The Stollery Philip C. Etches Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) located at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, is a 69 funded bed unit that accepts babies from all over Northern Alberta, Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut, and is characterized by high acuity and high activity. Reporting to the Unit Manager, the Unit Clerk functions as a receptionist and clerk for the NICU. The position is a coordinator and central source of information and records relating to the activities, communication, and services of the patients and families in the NICU. As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks including reception, managing the telephones, greeting and directing visitors, patients and allied health professionals, and managing patient records and charts. The position is also responsible for relaying information related to admissions, transfers and discharge of patients, diagnostic tests, booking appointments and consults. The incumbent will ensure an adequate level of supplies and equipment are available on the unit for use by the inter-professional team. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit. The Unit Clerk fulfills the expectations of the role within the framework of AHS values and Patient and Family Centre Care, acting and communicating with care, compassion, and empathy.

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

A Unit Clerk Certificate with practicum component in a hospital setting, from a recognized post-secondary institution, is required. Connect Care experience is required. NICU experience is preferred. Other hospital experience will also be considered. Ability to work a variety of shifts - days, evenings, nights and weekends - required.

Exceptional communication and organizational skills are essential. Experience in a fast-paced, hospital environment essential.
