Technical Attendant

As the Technical Attendant in the Orthotics and Prosthetics service, you will help support the daily functioning of the department. Some of the core activities of this role include but are not limited to: Maintaining cleanliness and organization of shops/work areas. Sewing of straps. Cast filling. Operating and cleaning of some machines (sanding, grinding and cutting machines). Assisting with maintaining supplies/stock in work areas. Use of hand tools and power tools as needed. Use of Microsoft computer programs such as Excel, Outlook and Word. Assisting with departmental packing and shipping as needed. Daily maintenance and preparation of clinical spaces. Operating of carving machine. The ideal candidate is a hard-working team player who is adaptable and willing to learn new things. This role has a wide range of responsibilities where every day can be different and where prioritizing and re-prioritizing throughout the day is a regular occurrence. The technical attendant works patiently with all members of the team and is ready and willing to help wherever is needed. An openness to learning how to operate computer programs as well as machinery is required (band saw, grinders, sanders, sewing machines etc.). Working in dirty/dusty environments is a regular part of this role. The technical attendant is also required to help with lifting and moving heavy items such as boxes of plaster or sheets of plastic on a regular basis. An emphasis on working safely (WHMIS) is essential in this role.

As a Technical Attendant, you will work in conjunction with other multidisciplinary team members, and provide direct and indirect client/patient care activities. You will also provide non-patient care activities to support operations of service delivery.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.

Must be able to lift up to 50lbs from floor to waist level. Must be able to carry up to 40lbs for short distances. Pushing and pulling loaded carts and walking up and down stairs and ramps are required in this role. Previous WHMIs training is required.

Proficiency with power tools is an asset. Proficiency with Computer Programs and Computer-Assisted Manufacturing processes are considered an asset. Previous experience in Prosthetic and Orthotic work environments is an asset. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook and Word).
