Description
Reporting and accountable to the Maz OR Unit Managers and PCM, the Cardiovascular Perfusionist II is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, planning, development, delivery, and evaluation of perfusion services for the Maz OR. This position will lead the Cardiovascular Perfusionist I staff, providing evidence informed services as well as supervising the activities of the Perfusionists I’s in the department including organization and delegation of workloads, assigning staff to work areas based on training needs or expertise. This role involves recognizing areas of technical deficiency, ensuring staff receive appropriate orientation and training. The Cardiovascular Perfusionist II will be responsible for equipment management, including ensuring availability of adequate staff, tracking supply usage, backorders, and substitutes. The Cardiovascular Perfusionist II participates in, and implements quality improvement initiatives, program development, evaluation, and knowledge translation within the program. The Cardiovascular Perfusionist II is a key participant in zone and provincial initiatives. The Cardiovascular Perfusionist II advises the manager in the day-to-day operational decision-making, coordinates professional development, and provides input regarding staff and team performance. The Cardiovascular Perfusionist II may be consulted on complex patient care scenarios and may provide clinical services. This role will also enhance and maintain the education and skills of current and future employees as well as students.
As a Cardiovascular Perfusionist II, you are responsible for the safe and efficient preparation for and management of cardiopulmonary bypass and related cardiopulmonary support modalities for adult, pediatric and infant patients. You will work in consultation with attending physicians and will administer various anaesthetic and medical gases, other related pharmaceuticals, blood and blood products and various crystalloid solutions. You will provide clinical leadership and supervision to the Perfusionist I, and are responsible for a variety of administrative duties including interviewing and hiring, staff orientation, appropriate training, and evaluation of staff through regular performance appraisals. You are responsible for the development, implementation and ongoing quality control of the Clinical Perfusion Department.
Completion of an accredited Cardiovascular Perfusion training program. Active or eligible for registration with Canadian Society of Clinical Perfusion (CSCP). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Providers (BCLS-HCP).
Graduate of a recognized Cardiovascular Perfusion training program. The American Board (ABCP) Certification (CCP) may be considered, however, there will be a requirement to move to Canadian Licensing within two years of start date. Continuing education and maintenance of C.S.C.P educational credits are required. Excellent communication skills are a requirement of the position. The ability to create an environment conducive to teamwork is also essential.
