South Health Campus (SHC) services Calgary and the surrounding rural areas and was designed as a referral centre for Southern Alberta. SHC operational philosophy has been built on Four Pillars: Collaborative Practice, Wellness, Patient and Family Centered Care, and Innovation. These pillars guide the development and delivery of service to all patients and families at SHC. The Allied Health department at South Health Campus provides services to in-patient units and out-patient service areas. Under general supervision from the Allied Health Assistant Manager and support from the Clinical Practice Leader, this Social Worker III position primarily supports patients in the Intensive Care Unit and inpatient’s followed by the Palliative Care Team. The caseload also supports the Emergency Department, as required. This position requires provision of advanced clinical services for patients with complex and multidimensional medical, psychosocial, environmental and instrumental needs. Within the established standards, directives and policies for the work environment and the profession, you will provide guidance to other healthcare professionals and clinical direction to support personnel and students. Excellent organizational and time management skills to efficiently organize and prioritize workload to keep pace in a busy multi-disciplinary patient care environment, are required. Problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills, are also essential in this position. The caseload for all positions within the Allied Health department may be subject to change based on operational considerations.

As a Social Worker III, you will perform either advanced level assessment and treatment or act as a clinical lead. You will work with or within teams to provide health care services for patients with complex and multidimensional medical, psychosocial, environmental and instrumental needs. You will provide advanced clinical services, consultation to the interprofessional team and patients/families and supervision of students and team members as assigned. You may also act as a clinical lead providing leadership in the planning, development, and delivery of services in a specific area, as well as staff development, quality improvement and evaluation or research activities as identified by the needs of the service area(s).

Master's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).

Basic Cardiac Life Support-Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) through Heart & Stroke Foundation. Experience working in an acute care hospital for 2 years. Advanced level clinical intervention and assessment skill in crisis intervention/family therapy, psychotherapy/counselling with individuals, couples, and families.

Experience providing Social Work support in critical care setting such as the Emergency Department and/or Intensive Care Unit of an adult urban acute care/hospital setting within the past year. Recent experience working with patients/families in crisis, facing chronic illness and end of life care/palliative. Identified experience supporting the multidisciplinary team with decision making and capacity issues in an acute care setting.
