Description

Reporting to the Manager of the Summit Day Hospital program, the Psychosocial Rehabilitation Assistant (PSRA) provides day to day milieu and classroom support for children and adolescents (ages 10-18) with complex mental health issues and associated developmental, cognitive and behavioral disorders. Service is provided in the context of family-centered care and may include liaison and collaboration with relevant community agencies, including schools. Responsibilities may include participation in case conferences, staff meetings, professional development and program evaluation as required, student education, and other related duties as required. Appropriate documentation and statistical data collection is required. Group therapy co-facilitation and escalation management are also key aspects of the PSRA role. Please note the location of this position is with the Summit; Jim & Marian Sinneave Centre for Youth Resilience under Recovery Alberta.
The Psychosocial Rehab Assistant (PSRA) works with a multidisciplinary team assisting with therapeutic programming within an in-patient or day treatment Mental Health program. Under the guidance of Registered Nurses and Family Counselors, the Psychosocial Rehab Assistant also supports the implementation of individual and group program plans for children and adolescents admitted to the mental health care unit. Knowledge and understanding of child and adolescent development, and therapeutic interventions is essential to optimal patient care. This specific PSRA opportunity involves offering therapeutic support to patients who may be holding in Emergency Department or who are placed 'off service' in medical units throughout the hospital.
Completion of diploma in Social Work or Child and Youth Care or completion of Bachelor's Degree in Psychology .
Diploma in Child and Youth Studies or Degree in Health related discipline (Psychology or Sociology preferred). Active registration with licensing body if applicable.
Completion of Brain Story Certification. Collaborative problem-solving training. Suicide Risk Assessment training. 1-2 years' experience working in a multidisciplinary mental health team. 1-2 years' experience working with children and adolescents with mental illness.
