Reporting to the Manager of EEHC Family and Urgent Care Clinics, the Service Worker I position works in collaboration with the healthcare team. The position is responsible for contributing to safe patient care and efficiency of the unit, by maintaining a hygienic and well-equipped area. The position involves transporting patients to other clinical areas, collection and cleaning of instruments for transport to RAH MDR department, receiving, dispensing and rotation medical/surgical supplies, reporting equipment problems, disinfecting equipment and clinic environment. Must be able to handle and maintain hospital equipment. Duties include but are not limited to: Orientation of new staff. Linen and waste management, Stock, ordering of supplies. Cleaning various equipment used in the department. Assisting staff and patients with general requests and other related duties as assigned. This position resides within the Primary Care and Chronic Disease Management department, which is part of the broader Community Health Services Portfolio, in the event of a public health emergency, staff from this program, will be deployed as required.

As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.

Grade 12 or equivalent.

This is a front-line position that supports a multidisciplinary team to ensure the flow of patients through the clinic. Recent Service Worker experience in an outpatient clinic area or acute care surgery area required for handling of surgical instruments. Knowledge of surgical instruments required. Able to recognize and maintain confidential information. Proven interpersonal skills and cooperative attitude. Ability to work as a team member required. Required to take direction and give direction to team members, liaison between physicians, other health care professionals. Must demonstrate ability to work independently, have sound analytical reasoning, be a critical thinker, be self-directed, to problem solve and having exceptional organization skills. Required to be able to stand, walk, bend and transfer patients throughout a shift, must be able to move up to 50-75 pounds on a frequent basis. Integrates AHS missions and values in your work philosophy.

This is a front-line position that supports a multidisciplinary team to ensure the flow of patients through the clinic. Knowledge of computer applications such as MS outlook, MS word is an asset. From MyLearningLink completion of the following modules: Waste Management Module 1 and 2; WHIMIS.
