The General Ledger Finance team at Health Shared Services (HSS) is on the hunt for an experienced Senior Financial Analyst to join our ranks! Reporting to the Manager, General Ledger, this position is responsible for performing complex and multi-dimensional duties related to the interpretation of financial and/or accounting reports for HSS in accordance with HSS policies and procedures, generally accepted accounting principles, and financial directives issued by Alberta Health. You will be responsible for the import and reconciliation of various sub-systems into the general ledger, review and approval of account reconciliations, ensuring validity and reliability of financial data, and applying accounting concepts and principles to improve data quality in the General Ledger. You’ll also collaborate with a diverse range of individuals, both within our organization and beyond, on issues such as financial statement preparation, responding to audit requests/requirements, and the development and completion of special projects. As a senior member of the team, you’ll participate in mentoring and guiding the work of Clerks and Financial Analysts on the General Ledger team. As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will coordinate and/or prepare complex financial and statistical analysis and reports, along with providing interpretation of analyses and reports to support business and external requirements. Your work will be focused on budgets, forecasting, recommendations for program and/or cost efficiencies and development or enhancements to processes and controls. In addition, you will coordinate and monitor progress of financial projects, as well as coach and guide other department staff such as Financial Analysts.
Post secondary degree specializing in accounting or related field (e.g. economics, statistics).
Knowledge of full cycle accounting procedures and financial statement preparation. Minimum 3 - 5 years’ experience in a progressively responsible position in a large organization, preferably healthcare, and in working with automated, interactive financial accounting systems. Must possess a high degree of initiative and decision-making capabilities. Attention to detail, as well as strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills are essential to this position. Ability to work well within a collaborative team environment, coordinate multiple priorities, and meet defined deadlines. Proficient in MS Excel and working knowledge in other MS Office Suite applications.
Professional accounting designation preferred. Candidates with significant progress towards completion of designation requirements and an equivalent combination of experience may be considered. Demonstrated experience coaching and mentoring junior staff. Experience in Oracle Business Suite is considered an asset. Ability to work with minimal direction and be a self-starter. Ability to work with highly sensitive and confidential information.
