Respiratory Therapist I

The CCI is currently recruiting a Respiratory Therapist I (RRT) to join our patient focused ambulatory and inpatient services. The RRT will work independently in assessing oncology/hematology patients in developing a care plan. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide recommendations and support to the different departments at the site (Systemic Treatment area, Inpatients, Radiation Therapy, Diagnostic Imaging, Outpatient clinics). The successful candidate will be a key member of the Code Team at the CCI. As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

A minimum of two years of acute care experience. Possess strong assessment skills. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Critical thinker who can problem solve and work independently. Must be able to perform repetitive physical duties that include walking long distances, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching above shoulder, and able to lift a minimum of 20 kg. Must be able to assist with safe patient transfers and other duties related to patient care. Proficient written and verbal communication skills for safe patient/family care and interdisciplinary collaboration. Must be competent and confident in providing care to patients newly diagnosed through the continuum of end of life.

Experience caring for oncology/hematology patients. Prior experience working on a Code Team. Experience with Clinical Trials. Demonstrate a commitment to and participation in professional growth. Experience with Connect Care. Experience with Tracheostomy/laryngectomy patients and high heated humidity. Excellent patient and staff teaching skills.
