Description

The Recreation Department at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital (GRH) is looking for a Therapy Assistant to join our team. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision. As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.
Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.
Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary Therapy Assistant program with a focus on Therapeutic Recreation. Previous experience in clinical/rehabilitation settings and/ or with persons who have disabilities. Must be capable of transferring patients and portering patients with pushing/pulling wheelchairs both indoors, outdoors, and in aquatic environments. Effective communication with a patient centered focus. Demonstrating behaviors consistent with the values of AHS: compassion, accountability, respect, excellence, and safety. Effective organizational/time management skills. Intermediate knowledge of computer and software applications (i.e., Outlook, Teams, Word, etc.). A high level of physical effort (60-70%) is related to clinical caseload. The Therapy Assistant is required to be able to maintain a standing position with lifting, bending, and/or rotation related to client transfers or therapeutic recreation interventions. A high degree of concurrent mental effort (70-80%) is required for clinical decision making. Excellent attendance record, reliability & personal suitability must be demonstrated through your employment references.
Rehabilitation experience is preferred. Connect Care experience is an asset. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention Training is an asset. Equivalent education and work experience will be considered. Reliable mode of transportation.
