Description
The University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research and teaching hospitals, treating more than 700,000 patients annually. The UAH and Stollery Children’s Emergency Department is a busy tertiary care level I emergency department and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This large tertiary Trauma Centre provides opportunities in a broad base of emergency nursing from Pediatrics to Trauma Care. Registered Nurses within the Emergency department work in a state-of-the-art facility utilizing an electronic tracking system, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for emergency patients. Decisions are made in a collaborative multidisciplinary health care team environment. In this role, you may be required to work in all areas of Emergency at the discretion of the Unit Manager/Charge Nurse. Working with us is about making a difference. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.
2 years of med/surg/acute care RN experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. RN Registration must be current with CARNA (Must provide certificate). Current Basic Life Support (BLS - Heart and Stroke AED Level C REQUIRED) - Healthcare Provider Registration (Must provide certificate). Application package provides examples of excellent communication skills. In this position, you will be on your feet for an extended period of time (both walking and standing), and you must be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients. You will also be required to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment.
1 year of Emergency RN experience. Recent nursing experience in a tertiary/urban centre. Recent critical care experience in the last 2 years. ACLS, TNCC, ENPC, PALS, NRP - Preference will be given to applicants with 3 of 6 (Must provide certificate prior to interview). Certified Emergency Nurse (CAN or CNE) an asset. Preference to those who can demonstrate excellent assessment skills, organizational skills, patient care skills, and leadership skills.
