St. Albert Public Schools is currently seeking applications for a Part-Time Contractor Physiotherapist .



Physiotherapists in schools provide services to children with orthopedic, neurological, muscular, spinal, or joint dysfunction so that these students may access the educational curriculum in the least restrictive environment and optimize their physical wellness and safety. These services include assistance in physical positioning to promote optimal physical access to education, assistance in maximizing independence for students who have limited mobility, and prevention and alleviation of movement dysfunction. The services performed by a physiotherapist in schools may include screening, assessment, consultation, program planning, assistance in diagnosis and treatment, equipment selection/adaptation, training and research, and appropriate referrals into the community when services are out of the scope of a school Physiotherapist.



These services may include:

screening/assessment;

consultation for school staff/families;

training of staff to carry out routines such as transfers, positioning, seating, or motor activities for optimal maintenance of students in classroom settings during the school day; and

monitoring and ongoing evaluation of students in classroom settings related to physical therapy.



Required Qualifications and Experience:

A member in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.

The successful applicant must be a Registered Physiotherapist; mentorship and supervision for Physiotherapy Interns is not available as this position represents the Physiotherapy coverage for the school division.

Current membership with the Canadian Physiotherapist Association and Alberta Association of Physiotherapists is an asset.

Previous experience working in pediatric Physiotherapy is a strong asset.

Experience to include strong exposure to working with children with complex physical and medical needs.

Experience working in a school setting is an asset and preferred.

AADL authorizer status for wheelchair frames and mobility equipment is an asset.

Have an understanding of a school environment, and a willingness to learn about education policies, processes, and procedures.

Delegate activities to teachers, educational assistants, and paraprofessionals

Maintain records and documentation of service provided

Provide support for lifts, transfers, and positioning students - both training staff and as a course of assessment and treatment.

Provide support for training for safe use of transfer and positioning equipment as necessary.

Travel to and among schools to provide services.





Hours of Work: Average of 14 hrs*./week Part-Time Contractor

*Please note that the hours will fluctuate throughout the school year, with the beginning and end of the school year requiring additional support.

Salary will commensurate with experience.
