Description
Reporting to the maintenance lead hand, the 4th Class Power Engineer performs highly skilled maintenance work relating to specialized equipment repair, operating the power plant, the water treatment plants, building control systems, building construction, and requiring considerable initiative and judgment in accordance with codes, regulations, specifications and acceptable standards. Responsibilities: To operate the power plant effectively and efficiently, HVAC systems, water treatment systems, air handling equipment and all related equipment within the facility. Adherence to Code requirements and demonstrate that safety is always first in any task. Participate with Fire drills, WHIMIS, WH&S and Quality Assurance programs for the maintenance department. Ability to work on-call including weekends and after hour response. Liaison between the maintenance departments and the Hospital customers to ensure all emerging issue are dealt with.
As a Power Engineer 4th Class, you will be responsible for assisting with monitoring, repairs and maintenance of plant operations in accordance with AHS and Alberta Boiler Safety Association (ABSA) standards and practices. You will schedule and check building/power plant equipment systems on a pre-established schedule. In addition, you will operate and maintain the plant in a safe and efficient manner according to ABSA regulations.
Completion of 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate.
Certification as a 4th Class ABSA Power Engineer is required. Valid class 5 vehicle operator’s license is required. Computer skills (Computerized Maintenance Management System, EXCEL, WORD and Outlook). Ability to prioritize and re-prioritize work and work well under stressful conditions. Knowledge to operate building automation systems, H.V.A.C. systems, boilers, chiller, Water treatments systems, refrigeration equipment and other plant equipment. Knowledge of plumbing installation and repair. Understands the importance of confidentiality. Must possess good communication skills and be fluent in speaking, writing and following written instructions in English.
Reading and interpreting blueprints schematics and wiring diagrams. Trade certification (plumbing, electrical, instrumentation) would be an asset. The ability to participate in snow removal as needed. Two years’ experience in Power Plant operation, building automation systems is desired. One year experience working in a maintenance role within a Health Care facility desired. Water treatment level 1 certificate. Wastewater level 1 certificate.
