Are you a motivated and dedicated Pharmacist interested in making a meaningful impact in patient care? AHS is seeking a skilled pharmacist to join our team at Foothills Medical Centre. In this role, you will work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team to optimize pharmacotherapy for patients with renal disease and solid organ transplants. You will assess patients for medication-related issues, contribute to individualized medication management plans, and help optimize therapeutic outcomes in the acute inpatient setting. This hospital-based position includes participation in nephrology and renal transplant patient care rounds, close collaboration with specialist physicians and multidisciplinary teams, and direct engagement with patients and families. Responsibilities include reviewing and verifying medication orders, with a focus on immunosuppression management, renal dose adjustment, and drug monitoring for transplant and renal patient populations. You may assist with special access or investigational drug therapies and support pharmacy operations through mentorship of new staff, precepting students, and providing guidance to Pharmacy Assistants and Technicians. This position requires availability for day, evening, night, and/or weekend shifts, as the site operates 24/7. The successful candidate is experienced with computerized medication order entry and drug information systems, works well within diverse teams, and maintains patient confidentiality. Strong critical thinking, time management, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with a compassionate, patient focused approach. Effective English communication and professional accountability are required. As a Pharmacist I, you will be responsible for the safe, effective and efficient preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical services. You will manage medication therapy for patients, both initially and on an ongoing basis. In addition, you will provide assessment, intervention and resolution of potential or actual drug-related problems and oversee activities related to compounding and packaging.
Completion of Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Current, provisional or transferable registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacist.
Entry-to-practice degree (Bachelor of Science or PharmD) in Pharmacy. Completion of an accredited hospital residency and/or post-professional Pharm D program is preferred. To ensure your skills and qualifications are considered, please attach a resume and cover letter with your application. Additional Prescribing Authorization at time of hire or within the 1st year of employment, and to administer injections. At least 1 year of recent clinical deployment in hospital pharmacy setting within the last 2 years. Work or training experience in inpatient renal or solid organ transplantation is strongly preferred. Applicants must be trained in PN verification. The FMC Inpatient Pharmacy operates 24/7, applicants must be able to work all shifts.
Previous experience working in a multidisciplinary team and precepting is an asset. A strong ability to apply evidence-based medicine in direct patient care and a willingness to engage in ongoing learning would be beneficial in this role. We seek motivated, self-directed individuals committed to continuing competence. Project experience, and committee work will be considered. Active CSHP membership is also considered.
