Description
Based onsite in the Arthur Child Cancer Center, this position functions as an integral member of the Palliative/End of Life Care portfolio and Palliative Care Consult Service by combining the roles of practitioner, teacher, consultant, leader, and researcher through integrating interdisciplinary clinical practice, nursing staff development and research activities. Working within an interdisciplinary team, the Nurse Practitioner will support community/outpatients with a life limiting oncological diagnoses using a holistic approach to complex physical, psychosocial, and spiritual symptoms and will work collaboratively across palliative, oncology and community teams.
As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
3-5 years' experience in palliative care and experience caring for oncology patients. Advanced clinical and assessment skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and to be flexible to adapt to changing clinical situations. Advanced skills and competencies in critical thinking and problem solving. Leadership skills. Works collaboratively with all members of the health care team, including patients and families.
3-5 years' experience in advanced practice role.
