The Pediatric Epilepsy Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide patient- and family-centered care as a vital member of the multidisciplinary pediatric neurology team. This role primarily focuses on managing patients with epilepsy, working closely with the Pediatric Epileptic Medical Unit (PEMU) and the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program (CEP). The NP will be responsible for consulting on inpatients within the Pediatric Units, including PEMU, and providing independent care in outpatient, ketogenic, and transition clinics. The primary focus will be on delivering expert clinical care to children and families with epilepsy or those admitted for epilepsy management. In this role, the NP will conduct comprehensive assessments, make diagnoses, order and interpret tests, prescribe medications, and manage both inpatient and outpatient care. Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary epilepsy team, the NP ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based, holistic care across all domains of clinical epilepsy practice, including education, research, and leadership. Comprehensive Assessment: Perform detailed assessments of epilepsy patients, including history and physical exams, diagnosis, and management of diseases related to epilepsy. Autonomous Clinical Care: Independently manage outpatient clinical care, including seeing consultations and follow-up visits for epilepsy patients. Pediatric Inpatient Care: Participate in the admission, rounding, and discharge of patients on the Pediatric Epileptic Medical Unit (PEMU). Education & Leadership: Support the training of new healthcare professionals, including overseeing student placements, precepting neurology/epilepsy NP students, quality improvement and policy development.

As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Preference will be given to candidates with experience or a strong interest in pediatric epilepsy and experience in managing neurology and neurosurgery patients, as well as those with research experience in neurosciences.
