Description
Under the supervision of the Eating Disorders Program Unit Manager, and in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will act as a care provider for inpatient clients with eating disorders as well as to their families. The LPN will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, as well as utilize the nursing process and professional knowledge in delivering compassionate and professional nursing care to the target population. The LPN will participate in the provision of education and treatment in both individual and group formats. Primary responsibilities include performing medical monitoring and assessment, meal support therapy, suicide and self-harm assessments, mental status examination, and daily mental health support.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Minimum 2 years of experience in an inpatient practice setting. Working knowledge of concurrent disorders, risk assessments, safety plans, psychotropic medications and mental status assessments. Working knowledge of client and family centered care principles. Working knowledge of relevant legislation is required, including the Alberta Mental Health Act and Health Information Act.
Current NVCI/NCI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) certification. Experience in mental health and addictions practice settings. Experience managing the medical complications that could arise with eating disorders and ability to provide treatment as directed, assess potential difficulties, and respond to medical emergencies.
