Description
Reporting to the Manager, Trauma Services and PCU 44 and the Trauma Medical Director, the Nurse Practitioner- Trauma Services will focus on the provision of expert clinical care in managing the health needs of individuals experiencing traumatic injury who present to the Level One Trauma Centre in Southern Alberta - The Foothills Medical Centre. In collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, the NP provides direct patient care using advanced assessment skills, injury and disease pathology knowledge, pharmacology, therapeutic skill, intervention management and referrals. The incumbent is expected to provide leadership and participate in program development and evaluation, research, and clinical teaching activities.
As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
A minimum of 3 years recent clinical nursing experience essential. Demonstrated ability to function effectively independently and as an interdisciplinary team member. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to enable working directly with patients and their family members. Demonstrated strong decision-making/problem solving abilities. Experience in a wide range of assessment, treatment and therapeutic interventions, health promotion, diagnostic procedures, and follow-up care in the community. Computer literacy skills (i.e. Word, Excel).
A minimum of 3 years of recent emergency/critical care clinical nursing experience preferred. Relevant experience in trauma is preferred. Current Heart and Stroke Foundation certification in ACLS preferred. Current Trauma Nursing Core Course certification preferred. Instructor certification preferred. Recent WISE (Workshop in Simulation Education) or equivalent preferred. Relevant experience in trauma is preferred. Computer literacy skills (i.e. Connect Care, NetCare, etc.).
