Description
Unit 47, a newly established 29-bed acute care unit specializing in general and internal medicine. This dynamic unit also accommodates temporary seasonal capacity beds, offering a unique opportunity to lead in a fast-paced and evolving clinical environment. As the Nurse Clinician (NC) for Unit 47, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the culture and clinical excellence of this new unit. You will champion collaborative practice, support the full scope of nursing, and foster a patient- and family-centered care approach. Your leadership will be instrumental in mentoring staff, enhancing clinical competencies, and driving continuous improvement. In this advanced practice role, you will provide expert clinical guidance to the interdisciplinary team, ensuring high standards of care and consistency in patient outcomes. You will lead initiatives that promote safe, efficient patient flow and contribute to strategic planning and implementation of educational programs tailored to the needs of medical patients. Your responsibilities will also include supporting staffing coordination to meet the fluctuating demands of the unit. The ideal candidate will be a clinical role model with strong leadership, critical thinking, and change management skills. You will demonstrate the ability to prioritize competing demands, advocate for patients and families, and communicate effectively across disciplines. A commitment to excellence in collaborative practice and continuous learning is essential. This is a temporary position from November 2025- May 2027.
As a Nurse Clinician (NC), you will be responsible for the coordination of an interprofessional team, in the provision of quality patient (client, resident) care in order to meet the operational priorities and requirements within a clinical setting. You will use an integrative leadership approach in assisting, planning, implementing and evaluating care needs, while assuming responsibility for staff assignments, patient flow and clinical resources. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
1-2 years previous nurse clinician experience required. Including 1 year experience on unit 47. 1-2 years leadership experience on an acute medicine unit. Strong communication and leadership skills. Recent discharge planning experience. CVAD/PCA Certification. IV Direct Push Certification.
Experience with removal of PICCs and Non-Tunneled CVADs. Chest Tube Certification. Advanced nursing certification (i.e. ACCN, ACLS). Experience working with core elements of COACT. Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training. AHS Leadership Courses. Current It’s Your Move training.
