A fantastic temporary opportunity is available for a Unit Manager role on Unit 44 Trauma Surgery at Foothills Medical Centre. As the Adult Level I Trauma Centre for Calgary and Southern Alberta, FMC offers a fast-paced, high-acuity environment at the forefront of trauma care. Unit 44 is dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals with polytrauma and general surgical needs during the acute phase of recovery. As a key leader within a dynamic, multidisciplinary team, the Unit Manager partners closely with the Manager to support and inspire staff, foster a culture of excellence, and advance evidence-based practice.

The Unit Manager is responsible for the effective management of human, material, and financial resources, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care aligned with AHS values. This frontline leadership role requires strong communication, sound decision-making, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment. The Unit Manager provides leadership across administrative, operational, and clinical functions, supporting the vision and strategic priorities of Alberta Health Services and the Surgical Services portfolio. Accountable for day-to-day operations, the role oversees staffing and recruitment, optimizes resource utilization, and fosters the development and maintenance of clinical competence within a multidisciplinary team. A key focus of the position is building a positive and supportive environment for staff, patients, and families. The Unit Manager is expected to promote professional growth through coaching, motivation, and performance management, while leading change initiatives and strengthening team cohesion. This role requires strong leadership, clinical expertise, and the ability to engage stakeholders effectively, contributing to improved patient outcomes and the delivery of exceptional care

A minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree Current registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) or other applicable professional licensing body Basic Life Support (BLS) - Heart and Stroke Recent leadership experience demonstrating strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with a commitment to patient- and family-centered care Demonstrated ability to manage change and build effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders Proven ability to inspire, coach, and develop others while constructively managing conflict A proactive, self-directed approach to work, with the ability to anticipate needs, take initiative, and consistently see tasks through to completion in a fast-paced environment

A graduate degree in healthcare Recent clinical experience in acute surgical nursing Experience with rotation and scheduling processes Demonstrated human and financial resource management experience Experience with systems such as WFM, RMS, ePeople, MSN, and RLS
