Licensed Practical Nurse

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works as a member of an interprofessional health care team and is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family centered care. They are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills. This position performs physical and psychosocial assessments, assists physicians with procedures, treatments and examinations, triages (screens, redirects, and responds to) telephone calls related to patient care, care plan development, panel management, health screening, provides patient/family teaching and participates in clinic and department initiatives. The LPN performs specific LPN specialized clinical competencies, provided the criteria for performance are met such as, but not limited to, ear syringing, ECG's, injections, and immunizations. The LPN demonstrates a professional and caring approach to patients and families. This position will be part of Primary Care Alberta effective November 18, 2024. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Successfully completed the immunization module from the CLPNA if graduated before June 2022. 3 - 5 years of recent LPN experience in a Primary Care Clinic. 3 - 5 years of recent experience with Med Access Electronic Health Record (EHR), Netcare and Right fax. Ability to work Day and Evening shifts. Ability to assist with patient mobility transfers. Able to lift >40lbs. Able to sit/stand for extended periods of time. Handling, moving and lifting heavy or awkward equipment and/or individuals. Ability to provide leadership in a team environment. Strong work ethic, self-motivated, innovative and ability to work independently. Ability to effect change, support change management. Exceptional attention to detail. Ability to contribute to a positive work environment. Demonstrate communication, problem solving, and organizational skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality with all aspects of information in accordance with practice, Provincial and Federal regulations. Ability to work with multiple, changing priorities, and effectively manage time. Knowledge of Primary Care Networks (PCN's). Demonstrated ability to work in a high intensity environment. Excellent communication skills in both verbal and writing with Physicians/Learners/Clinic Staff/Allied Health Team. Participate in clinic, department and PCN research projects and committees.
