Description
The Instructor - Clinical Nurse Educator, Intensive Care Unit (CNE) leads the planning, co-ordination, implementation and evaluation of education activities for designated nursing staff to support clinical competencies, organizational standards/practices/guidelines and patient and family centered care. Using adult learning principles, the CNE develops, and delivers educational activities for orientation, mandatory education, and clinical competencies, changes in policies, procedures and protocols to promote clinical competence for staff. The CNE determines appropriate education based on identified needs which includes legislation, continued competencies, quality improvement, strategic plans and objectives as well as organizational needs. Collaborating with the leadership team in the designated patient care setting and/or program area, the CNE functions as a change agent and resource to staff for professional development and clinical competence. The CNE collaborates with the leadership team around quality improvement strategies and facilitates appropriate educational activities. The CNE collaborates with the health care team at the unit, department, site, zone, and provincial level as necessary. The Clinical Nurse Educator must have expert adult Critical Care clinical knowledge and continue to keep abreast of changes in the field of Critical Care. Both formal and informal education will be provided by the Clinical Nurse Educator who must mentor, teach and provide supportive guidance to both new and experienced learners in Critical Care.
As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Active employment in an Adult Intensive Care setting within the past 1 year. Minimum of 5 years clinical experience in an Adult Intensive Care setting (including Trauma, Neuro, Medicine and Surgical ICU patients). Clinical expertise in the adult ICU clinical setting. Highly knowledgeable on current required Specialized Clinical Competency content. Experience and excellent understanding of Intermittent Hemodialysis, CRRT and TPE and the associated disorders these are used to treat. Previous adult teaching experience or teaching/facilitation skills in small and large group settings utilizing knowledge of adult learning processes. Coaching and mentoring skills. Change management knowledge and experience. Self-directed and self-motivated - demonstration of time management skills with the ability to organize and prioritize competing demands. Strong interpersonal verbal and written communication skills - the ability to collaborate in a team environment. Skilled in retrieval and appraisal of evidence from a variety of credible sources to provide current accurate information. Understanding and application of information and communication technologies.
Certification as a CPR/ACLS Instructor. Leadership skills and experience or involvement in developing, delivering, and implementing educational programs or initiatives. Previous experience in the planning and implementation of a quality improvement initiative. Experience working with diverse communities, groups and organizations (ethno-cultural, equity-setting, racialized, faith-based, 2S LGBTQI+, vulnerable, marginalized, persons with disabilities, and persons across all age groups).
