Edmonton Zone Continuing Care provides services through five main program areas: Home Living, Supportive Living, Facility Living, Transition Services and Palliative Care. Supportive Living (SL) is a Program that provides an integrated system of health and personal support services to clients based on assessed need. SL has an opening for an instructor position, which will be responsible for Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) and Case Manager Educator (CME) duties within the Education and Practice Development portfolio. The educator facilitates, coordinates, and supports the implementation of projects and initiatives within the program, driven by orientation, professional development, continuing education, changes in policies, procedures, protocols, and technology. The educator acts as a role model and resource for staff in professional development, clinical competency, and case management skills. Responsibilities include developing and delivering educational materials that emphasize the wellbeing of clients. Provide ongoing support on clinical skills and clinical competency. Identifies clinical knowledge gaps and create targeted support for staff. This position collaborates with the interdisciplinary team and consults with managers to identify learning needs and operational requirements. The position supports new staff and promotes best practice through group and one-on one coaching and mentorship. Additionally, the educator attends site meetings and case conferences with staff, chairs meetings as required and foster a culture of professional growth.
As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Two years recent experience in the community sector (within the last 4 years). Two years’ experience working as a Case Manager in community Two years’ experience working in a clinical skill-based role Current working knowledge of Connect Care and inter-RAI, Meditech an asset Knowledge and experience in managing a range of wound etiologies including those that are complex. Sound clinical judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office) are necessary Experience with development, implementation, facilitation and evaluation of education materials and programming is required Exceptional interpersonal skills, including peaceful conflict management and problem solving. Strong written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills Possess the skills to build networks, support, and continuously communicate with both internal and external stakeholders Demonstrated leadership and teamwork abilities, along with the ability to work effectively in a self-directed environment are vital Travel among sites is required, thus must have a reliable vehicle and be able to drive in various weather conditions The successful candidate will work in a congregate setting, with multi-building setup. Therefore, must be able to work in different environments, as well as be able to lift and carry medical bags, which weigh approximately 25-30 lbs.
Experience in the Supportive Living program. Two years’ experience working in a community performing clinical skills preferred. Community educator experience is preferred, clinical educator experience an asset. Post graduate studies or certification in adult education, gerontology, chronic disease management and/or palliative care would be an asset.
