The Director, Furnishings & Equipment Planning is a key leadership role in the Capital Management department and reports to the Chief Program Officer, Capital Management. This position is responsible and accountable for all aspects of furnishings and equipment (F&E) planning, requisitioning, receiving, marshaling and final deployment for all provincial health major capital and minor capital projects. The F&E planning process facilitates the identification and/or clarification of patient care or program driven clinical care needs for all projects. New and existing technologies are reviewed and selected as being optimal to meet the specific patient care needs identified. This position must also comply with the Alberta Infrastructure (AI), Alberta Health Ministries (AHM) & Health Shared Services (HSS), “Health Facility Capital Program Manual” policies in support of the existing and strategic goals, vision, mission and business plan for all Public Health Agencies (PHA) and Public Health Corporations (PHC).

The Director, Furnishings & Equipment Planning will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders and leaders within the health system in order to oversee and provide operational leadership to all related programs and services. This position provides direct support and expert counsel to the Chief Program Officer and other members of the Capital Management senior management team on all aspects of F&E planning for health major capital or minor capital projects within the province. The Director must also establish and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders and leaders from Alberta Infrastructure and all other Health Ministries, representing all major capital and minor capital project furnishings & equipment needs and ensuring open effective communications are maintained. The Director is also responsible for ensuring detailed monthly F&E financial reporting and forecasting is provided to AI, AHM and HSS for all health capital projects. The Director is accountable for developing and refining, as required, all internal department processes, policies and procedures, assessing regularly to ensure planning objectives, department key performance indicators and overall successful project outcomes are maintained.

A minimum of a related Bachelor’s Degree or Technology Diploma in Engineering (Clinical or Biomedical), Nursing, or other related project management or clinical field. A member in good standing with APEGGA, ASET or PMP or able to obtain within a specified period. A minimum of 8+ years working in a project management or operational management role. A proven operational or project management track record leading a team and directing staff, as well as a solid understanding of clinical practice and patient care within a healthcare environment. The incumbent must possess a proven knowledge of current construction practices and project delivery methodologies. Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and engineering specifications as well as contract documents is also required. Strong computing skills, written and verbal communication as well as experience using equipment databases is also essential. Knowledge and understanding of health facilities operation, in addition to a strong technical knowledge relating to clinical, diagnostic, imaging and reprocessing equipment is required.

The applicant should have a proven track record, dealing with clinical & non-clinical staff, senior management, physicians, vendors, external consultants, architects, Health executive and Government of Alberta Ministries as required. Preference will be given to applicants possessing current knowledge of furnishings & equipment planning practice along with recent experience with both large health capital major and minor projects.
