Description
The Bed Planning Clerical position is an integral role within the University of Alberta Hospital - Integrated Operations Centre (UAH-IOC). The position works alongside the Site Managers, Bed Coordinators, and the clerical staff with Admitting. Working under the general supervision and guidance of the Site Manager, the position performs complex clerical duties related to patient bed allocation, admission, direct admission, and transferring of patients. The successful candidate is responsible for accurately placing admissions according to diagnosis and isolation requirements. The position serves as a point of initial contact for physicians seeking admission of patients to hospital through any of the Main or Emergency Admitting areas. Must be able to communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other medical staff. Other duties include attending daily site capacity huddles, communicating with unit charge nurses, unit clerks, unit managers, admitting staff and physicians providing guidance and work leadership to student placements.
As an Administrative Support IV, you will require advanced administrative or specialized skills and knowledge to support complex procedures, practices and initiatives within a department or program.
Some post-secondary education.
Medical Office assistant Diploma or equivalent. Medical Terminology. Excellent knowledge of the English language both written and oral. Experience working in Bed Planning and/or Admitting. Experience & demonstrated proficiency with Connect Care. Accurate and proficient keyboarding skills of 40-50 wpm required. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.) and proficiency with online meeting software (Zoom, Teams etc.). Must be able to prioritize on an ongoing basis. Demonstrated ability to work independently. Demonstrated effective communication skills when dealing with staff, managers, and physicians. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Experience at the University of Alberta Hospital. Demonstrated proficiency of Connect Care. Prior experience working with the public. Client support leadership experience. Demonstrated ability to maintain a professional image and proven ability to remain calm, courteous, and tactful at all times. Demonstrated ability to work well under stress and prioritize a heavy workload. Skilled at paying close attention to detail.
