Reporting to the Manager, OHS and Environment, this position is responsible for the safety data management, administration and implementation of Air Canada Maintenance safety communication and safety awareness programs across the Air Canada Maintenance (ACM) system. The incumbent will establish the Safety Awareness program in compliance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) and Labour Canada (ESDC) across the ACM system with focus on main bases in YUL, YYZ, YYC and YVR.
This position is also responsible to maintain and implement new associated Environmental Programs while ensuring compliance is strictly adhered to. In addition, will act as the main Air Canada contact for ACM with station or subsidiary management regarding environmental issues and concerns for assigned areas of responsibility.
Responsibilities:
Operational Health and Safety
- Regional responsibility for tracking, trending and analysis of ACM system Health & Safety data and making recommendations on safety improvements to Director, H&S, Training and Qualifications derived from safety reports and data analysis. (Able to assist as required in other regions)
- Manages ACM Health & Safety reporting program and systems which include but not limited to; in Safety Information Management System (SIMS) and Web-OHS.
- Develops reports and documentation in support of, Business Unit reports, Health & Safety Review Boards (SRB) SMS Review Board (SMSRB), Corp. Safety Board (CSB) and ACM Training Review Board (TRB).
- Participates in the ACM Hazard Prevention Program and leads the Hazard Prevention Working Group through engagement, coaching, training, and facilitation of the HPP requirement.
- Participates in Workplace H&S Committees and Policy Committee meetings/activities by advising and consulting on safety, facilitating discussions on KPIs, and providing updates on the Canada Labour Code.
- Initiates and oversees the roll out all safety communication program and safety information sharing to front line employees based on investigations, safety trends and safety reports.
- Design an end to end production of ACM Safety Awareness products (including but not limited to ACM Safety publication, GlobeTV, Safety Bulletins, Safety Briefing Sheets (Safety Stand downs) Safety Visuals, media content and campaigns).
- Responsible for Health & Safety content on ACM’s intranet site (including H&S Hazard Registry).
- Monitors the effectiveness of safety awareness programs through the monitoring of KPIs and makes recommendations and follows-up with stakeholders, including Corp. Safety & Environment.
- Reviews trends based on Branch Safety Programs, alongside ACM OHS leadership team.
- Provides support to safety and operational projects by providing expertise within the safety scope.
- Conducts safety surveys, safety forums and participates in safety workshop.
- Manages ACM Safety Bulletin Boards in concert with Base management and Region.
- Monitors and investigates the trends of ACM H&S programs for the base (task observations / self audits etc.)
- Initiates changes to H&S related content in the ACM Control Manual and GPM / BUPM as required.
- Maintains a strong working relationship with Management, Coordinators and other members of all ACM Business Units.
- Lead and/or participate in Risk Assessment as well as accident/incident investigations.
Environmental Programs
- Provide support on progressing compliance and sustainability work initiatives
- Provide assistance, as required, to the Operations Team on Environmental compliance and initiatives processes, regulatory report preparation, data collection and correspondence internal and external.
- Develop and maintain documentation and ongoing updates on ACM environmental record keeping and management
- Coordinate logistics for environmental engagement and awareness commitments
- Support ACM Environment program as required, including maintaining Portal environment information relevant to ACM
- Responsible for coordinating stakeholders at the assigned base for meetings, and training arrangements
- Manage and coordinate correspondence, report/data preparations and outgoing/incoming requests to the Environment Team, support coordination of consultants and auditors
- Any additional duties, as may be required
Qualifications
- Must have safety as a personal priority.
- Post-secondary education focused on Operational Management or an applicable discipline.
- 3-5 years of experience in Health and Safety and/or Environmental role.
- Experience in project management and implementation (Lean Six Sigma greenbelt or higher preferred).
- Experience and training in OHS and environmental programs.
- Health and Safety and/or Environmental certifications an asset.
- Commitment to process safety as the embodiment of corporate culture, responsibility, and accountability.

- Ability to recognize hazards, drive continual improvement and promote alternatives for risk reduction and risk control measures.
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Must have superior knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Sharepoint (Power Apps, Flow and Power BI).

- Demonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment.
