POLICE CAPTAIN

(Full-time, 2-year contract)

Under the supervision of the Deputy Chief of Operations of the NPS, the Captain is required to:

  • Direct, coordinate and manage the activities of all personnel under their command.
  • Oversee and ensure the effective delivery of police service operations within the assigned territory.
  • Manage and account for human, financial, and material resources.
  • Establish, maintain, and strengthen communication with local elected officials, community representatives, partner organizations, and the public.
  • Implement adequate measures to respond to new challenges regarding crime, road safety and public perception of safety issues.
  • Remain on-call outside of regular hours, on a rotating basis, to manage emergency operations.
  • Travel regularly within Nunavik.
  • Perform any other related duties as requested by her/his supervisor.

Place of work: Kuujjuaq

Salary: $133,425 annually

Other benefits:

  • Cost-of-living differential: minimum $8,500 annually;
    • Food allowance: minimum $4,216 annually;
    • Annual leave trips: maximum three (3) per person per year;
    • RRSP: 6.5% employer contribution and 4% employee contribution;
    • Group insurance;
    • Vacation: 30 days annually;
    • Paid leave in lieu of statutory holidays: 20 days annually;
    • Paid leave to compensate for on-call duties: 120 hours annually.

Requested skills

  • Meet the minimum requirements set out in the Police Act to be hired as a police officer in Quebec.
  • Have a minimum of 15 years of experience as a police officer, including 5 in a supervisory role.
  • Experience in a multicultural environment will be considered an asset.
  • Possess a superior level of leadership, communication, senior-level planning and organization; an analytical mind; and the ability to establish lasting interpersonal relationships.
  • Demonstrable skills in human resources management, interpersonal relations, and verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team, Inuit communities and partner organizations and agencies.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding and strategic vision of public safety challenges across the entire territory under supervision.
  • Fluency (verbal and written) in English is essential; knowledge of Inuktitut and French will be considered an asset.
  • A university degree in administration or police management will be considered an asset.
