We focus on client adoption of disruptive technologies, technology architecture and providing specialized skills related to integration, custom software engineering, testing, application modernization, agile and more. We help our clients with the most complex projects including working in open web platforms, DevOps platforms as well as intelligent Computing and Architecture enhancement.
The Work:
The Mainframe COBOL Senior Developer is a highly experienced technical specialist responsible for designing, developing, enhancing, and maintaining COBOL-based applications running on mainframe platforms. This role combines deep hands-on expertise in COBOL, JCL, and related mainframe components with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. The Senior Developer collaborates closely with architects, analysts, integration teams, and operations to ensure reliable delivery of business-critical batch and online processes.
Basic Qualifications:
- 5+ years of hands-on COBOL development experience in a mainframe environment.
- Strong knowledge of:
- COBOL, JCL, TSO/ISPF, REXX (optional)
- DB2 (SQL, SPUFI, QMF), VSAM, flat files
- CICS/IMS for online applications
- File processing, copybooks, utilities (SORT, IDCAMS, IEBGENER, etc.)
- Strong debugging skills using system logs, dumps, Abend-AID, Fault Analyzer, or equivalent tools.
- Experience with version control (Endevor, Changeman, ISPW, Git-based for re-hosted systems).
- Eligible for reliability clearance.
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience with Hogan systems, Unisys mainframe, or other financial core platforms.
- Experience with Micro Focus/Rocket Mainframe Express, Enterprise Developer, or cloud re-hosting.
- Familiarity with mainframe DevOps and automated testing frameworks.
- Exposure to modernization initiatives (API enablement, code refactoring, data migration).
- Knowledge of MQ, APIs, distributed integrations, or ETL tools.
- Experience working in Agile or hybrid delivery environments.
Compensation at Accenture varies depending on a wide array of factors, which may include but are not limited to the specific office location,
role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by local law, Accenture provides a reasonable range of compensation, based on full-time
employment, for roles that may be hired as set forth below.
