Reporting to the Assistant Vice-President, Academic Equity & Inclusion, and the Assistant Vice-President, Indigenous Initiatives, the IEDI Data Analyst will play a key role in transforming institutional equity data into meaningful insights that illuminate community experiences, measure progress, and identify opportunities for action. The successful candidate will contribute to a data-informed culture that fosters inclusion and belonging, identifies and addresses barriers for equity-deserving groups, and advances the University’s Indigenization, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (IEDI) commitments outlined in Bi-Naagwad: It Comes Into View, the Anti-Racism Action Plan, and the University’s Strategic Plan.

The IEDI Data Analyst will collaborate extensively with Institutional Research and Planning (IRP) to ensure alignment of analytical practices, data governance, and institutional reporting. Through high-quality data collection, rigorous analysis, and clear reporting, the IEDI Data Analyst will help strengthen institution-wide accountability and support evidence-informed decision-making processes that advances systemic change. This work will help foster equitable learning and work environments that transform the University through IEDI, empower student, faculty, and staff success, and enhance research excellence, innovation and impact.

This staff position is part of the University of Guelph’s Black and Indigenous Hiring Initiative. Launched in June 2022, the Black and Indigenous Hiring Initiative (BIHI) calls for hiring fifteen or more Black and Indigenous faculty and four or more Black and Indigenous professional staff across the University of Guelph. The faculty and staff positions will be filled in areas that support the advancement of Black and Indigenous academic excellence and the University of Guelph’s commitments to inclusion, anti-racism, Indigenization, and decolonization.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Strategic Data Analysis and Decision Support

    • Formulate, analyze, and interpret complex data sets by accessing, merging, and manipulating large and complex datasets using SAS, SAS macros, R, SQL, and other programming languages; develops reproducible code for advanced statistical and analytical work.

    • Prepare comprehensive datasets, analyses, dashboards, and reports on key aspects of IEDIA and presents findings regularly to internal and external audiences including University leadership, partners, and funding agencies.

    • Engage with colleges, administrative units, and campus partners to understand IEDIA data needs, clarify requirements, and communicate insights clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

    • Design and produce interactive data visualizations and dashboards that integrate multiple data sources to support evidence-based decisions.

    • Maintain an institutional focus on equity-based analytical needs, including identifying critical metrics and KPIs that provide actionable insights to decision-makers at U of G.

    • Analyze data to answer key questions from invested parties, applying intersectional, anti-oppressive and decolonial methodologies that drive equity practices across the university.

    • Evaluate data and trends over time and develop strategic recommendations to enhance Indigenization, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility across governance, academic, and operational structures.

    • Identify and communicate risks and benefits associated with collecting and disseminating disaggregated data, including data related to race, ethnicity, Indigeneity, class, gender, disability, geography, immigration status, 2SLGBTQIA+ identities, and other intersectional factors.

    • Perform data validation and implement quality control measures to ensure reliability, consistency, and ongoing program success.

    • Develop and maintain confidential databases using data from primary and secondary sources; ensure data integrity, data ethics, and appropriate access controls.

    • Work with Indigenous communities, scholars, and data governance organizations to ensure alignment with community-led Indigenous data sovereignty practices and guidelines.

    • Develop educational resources and facilitates workshops on intersectional, anti-oppressive, and decolonial data methodologies, as well as Indigenous data sovereignty within educational and research contexts.

    • Document major shifts, patterns, and emerging issues to support institutional planning and continuous improvement.

    • Establish and monitor IEDIA-related performance indicators aligned with provincial/federal compliance, funding requirements, and institutional IEDIA commitments.

  • Institutional Reporting, Publications, IEDIA Data Governance, and External Data Exchange

    • Collaborate with Institutional Research and Planning, Human Resources, Diversity and Human Rights, Faculty and Academic Staff Relations, and Student Affairs on joint analysis and reporting related to self-identification data, employment equity surveys, climate surveys, wellness surveys, focus groups, and interviews.

    • Partner closely with Institutional Research and Planning to ensure alignment of Data Analysis practices.

    • Prepare analytical reports for academic units, departments, committees, and governance bodies.

    • Support external data exchange initiatives, collaborates with partner institutions, and contributes analytical/statistical reports for policy development.

    • Create, maintain, and enhance rich interactive data visualizations that integrate multiple reporting components for internal and external audiences.

    • Coordinate maintenance, analysis, and reporting of student self-identification data in collaboration with campus partners; prepares annual and customized reports and presentations for senior leadership and governance bodies.

    • Conduct confidential qualitative analysis of IEDIA-related surveys, focus groups, and interviews across units and faculties.

    • Assist units in implementing standards and best practices for equity data governance, including meeting external requirements and institutional equity commitments.

    • Facilitate community engagement across the university on equity data governance, disaggregated data literacy, and responsible data stewardship.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, the successful candidate is required to have:

  • A Master’s degree with preference given to a Master’s in Math, Statistics or a field with emphasis on research methodology and data analyses (e.g. Economics, Psychology, etc.).

  • Minimum 4 years related analytical experience; 6 years total relevant experience.

  • Working knowledge of Indigenization, equity, diversity and inclusion principles, with experience applying Indigenous data sovereignty frameworks and ethical data governance practices to equity‑focused data gathering, analysis, and sharing.

  • Strong working knowledge of SAS, R, SQL; strong skills in Excel, Tableau, and Power BI.

  • Experience creating analytics reports and dashboards with clear KPIs in mind and translating data into meaningful insights for non-technical audiences.

  • Experience visualizing data using reporting or dashboard tools.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgement in determining which metrics are meaningful for decision-making and which data is unnecessary or misleading.

  • Exceptional quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at varying levels of technical and digital literacy.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail, sound judgment, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain high standards of quality and accuracy.

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn new technologies, adapt to changing tools and platforms, and stay current with web and analytics trends.
