Manulife is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director, Executive Protection, to join our Corporate Security team. This role is critical in ensuring the safety and security of our senior executives and Board of Directors. The Director will work closely with the Office of the CEO to provide comprehensive protection services, including risk assessment, security planning, and emergency response.
Position Responsibilities:
Provide executive protection to key executives globally and while on business travel.
Manages the executive security driver program globally.
Support the Global Events Team and Corporate Security Team with executive event planning.
Executive security duties will include leading all aspects of trip planning, execution and logistics as well as coordination with numerous internal and external teams ranging from our executive office staff, Corporate Travel and Private Aviation teams, third-party security firms, and security personnel at other firms and organizations.
Executive security team members are responsible for providing security to Manulife executives in their home location and through extensive global travel. These trips will often involve engagement with local security providers and require advance visits to ensure logistics are carefully planned and performed.
The role will also require close coordination with our Corporate Security team through provision of support for security matters ranging from site security to investigations.
Responsible for supporting executive activities related to Corporate Events. This includes maintaining relationships and communications with the Corporate Events and Corporate Security teams and reviewing all global events to resolve events that require executive protection coverage. You will be responsible for working with the security team and, at times, security vendors to ensure that security is provided as needed. Based on the event characteristics and executive travel, you will at times be required to aid during events and help oversee other resources in their provision of security.
Be responsible for maintaining relationships with law enforcement agencies and security providers to ensure our ability to cover events and obtain assistance when required.
The role also requires support to executive families, residential premises, even during personal travel and events.
To succeed in this role, you will need to possess excellent judgment, strong communications skills, the ability to partner with groups outside Manulife Corporate Security (MCS), and the ability to know when to communicate and advance issues. You will partner with key stakeholders and will have a strong awareness of Manulife’s culture and the ability to resolve measures that are appropriate in that environment. You will also need a successful track record interacting with all levels of management with an emphasis on engaging to the satisfaction of senior partners.
Provide support to the Corporate Security and Events team at corporate events and help coordinate staff and vendors providing security at those events.
Provide executive protection services including trip planning, advance work, driver services, close protection, event coverage and coverage for business trips.
Oversee security in executive office space.
Oversee and lead executive protection vendors, including the acquisition of new vendors as vital.
Maintain strong ties with Local, Provincial/State and Federal Government law enforcement officials to ensure Manulife can respond appropriately to events or crises, a special emphasis is required in Toronto where we maintain our global headquarters.
Provide security support and advice to the Manulife Events staff for meetings and events where executives will be present to ensure an appropriate level of protection.
React and advise on regional security developments and security incidents impacting operations.
Promote security awareness and always instill a culture of collective and individual responsibilities for practicing good security.
Required Qualifications:
At least 10 years directly relevant corporate, government or military experience.
At least 5 years management experience in a relevant functional area.
Specialized training in executive and close protection.
Special consideration will be given to those with direct in experience in Federal VIP Protection teams, and or extensive experience in corporate executive protection.
Preferred Qualifications:
This role requires extensive security experience as well as expertise in dealing with senior executives and their administrative staff.
Experience must include a consistent record to apply judgment that balances the requirement to provide security, maintain confidentiality and to raise issues and concerns.
It must include experience planning and executing trips and events, handling emergency situations including security threats, but also including emergencies that involve response to natural and human-made disasters, medical emergencies and trip logistics.
The successful candidate will have previous law enforcement, military or executive protection experience and have worked with senior executives, preferably in a role involving global travel.
Well developed knowledge of threat assessment, and targeted violence assessment practices and principles.
Experience in conducting leading international protective missions.
Ability to prioritize, coordinate, and work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
Solid written and verbal communication skills.
Strong ethical compass.

Regular international travel is required.
