Senior Data Analyst

Position Summary

Contract Senior Data Analyst needed to replace departing team member. Must excel in SQL scripting, data profiling, and stakeholder management while working independently in an agile environment.

Essential Technical Skills

Expert-level SQL scripting - Advanced stored procedure development and optimization

• Master complex SQL queries, joins, subqueries, and performance optimization
• Develop and maintain advanced stored procedures for data processing
• Troubleshoot existing SQL codebases and enhance for improved efficiency

Data profiling and source-to-target mapping for data assets

• Conduct comprehensive data profiling to assess quality, completeness, and structure
• Create detailed documentation mapping data flows from source systems to targets
• Perform data lineage analysis and identify transformation requirements

SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) package development and maintenance

• Design dynamic reports with complex formatting, parameters, and subscriptions
• Maintain data sources, shared datasets, and implement security controls
• Optimize report performance for large datasets

Data modeling and dataset creation

• Design logical and physical data models supporting business requirements
• Create efficient dataset structures for analytical and reporting purposes
• Implement dimensional modeling for data warehouse environments

Financial data analysis experience (customer and financial datasets)

• Analyze financial transactions, customer portfolios, and risk metrics
• Understand banking products, regulatory requirements, and compliance standards
• Interpret and validate financial business rules and calculations

Key Responsibilities

Create and maintain source-to-target mappings for report generation

• Document mapping specifications including transformations and business logic
• Collaborate with business analysts to understand reporting requirements
• Maintain documentation as systems evolve

Collaborate with data engineers on ETL layers and database pipelines

• Partner with data engineering teams on workflow design and optimization
• Provide analytical requirements for ETL development
• Support pipeline testing and issue resolution

Manage stakeholder relationships and gather report requirements

• Conduct requirements sessions with business users and executives
• Translate business needs into technical specifications
• Communicate effectively across multiple departments

Perform data validation and testing

• Develop comprehensive test cases for data accuracy validation
• Execute end-to-end testing of reports and analytical outputs
• Document and resolve data quality issues

Work with legacy systems requiring remapping and rewiring

• Analyze legacy stored procedures for modernization opportunities
• Plan system migration strategies with minimal business disruption
• Reverse-engineer undocumented processes

Project & Communication Skills

Agile project experience with Jira and Confluence

• Participate in Scrum ceremonies and sprint activities
• Manage work items in Jira with proper documentation
• Create technical documentation in Confluence

Independent work capability with strong decision-making skills

• Take ownership of projects with minimal supervision
• Make informed technical decisions and prioritize competing demands
• Proactively identify and escalate risks

Stakeholder management across multiple business units

• Build relationships with Risk, Finance, Operations, and Technology teams
• Present findings to senior management
• Adapt communication style for different audiences

UAT and QA testing support

• Coordinate User Acceptance Testing with business stakeholders
• Create test scenarios and document defects through resolution

Preferred Skills

• Python for automation tasks - Scripting for data processing and quality checks
• Airflow jobs and workflow orchestration - Understanding of DAGs and job scheduling
• Banking/financial services background - Regulatory knowledge and risk analytics experience
• ETL pipeline knowledge - Data integration processes and warehouse concepts

Experience Required

• 5+ years as Senior Data Analyst with progressive responsibilities
• Proven financial data analysis experience with regulatory reporting
• Legacy system modernization projects and data migration experience
• Cross-functional team collaboration across IT, business, and compliance teams
