Position Title: Senior Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis
Line of Business: Community Investment
Duration: 6 Months
Remote/Hybrid: Hybrid - 1 day per week on Thursday's. Flexible for remote if candidate is located outside of Toronto. Open to candidates anywhere in Canada.
Office Location: 81 Bay
Work Schedule (hours per week, start time): 37.5 Hours/week, 9-5 Monday to Friday EST/EDT
Job Description:
You will prepare contributions, donations, investments, and cash reconciliations, and develop comprehensive financial statements and cashflow forecasting for management and Board committees. You will also prepare board packages, including financial reports and speaking notes for Board and Committee meetings. You will be principal support to the Treasurer and Finance committee in fulfilling their duties.
As a strategic leader, you will provide financial insights to support long-term planning and decision-making. You will design and implement finance policies and procedures, coordinate with external auditors and the Foundation Treasurer, and collaborate with external tax counsel for tax return preparation.
Financial Management: Oversee the overall financial management of the Foundation, ensuring compliance with governing laws, regulations, and accounting standards. Manage the Foundation Finance System to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance. Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets and ensure the integrity of financial records.
Cash Flow and Treasury Management: Conduct detailed cash flow forecasting to ensure the organization’s financial stability. Monitor and track investment accounts, working with the Outsourced Chief Investment Officer to provide management insights on performance and compliance. Prepare impact investing forecasts (or other such like activities) to evaluate potential returns on investments.
Reconciliation and Reporting: Prepare contributions, donations, investments, and cash reconciliations to ensure accuracy in financial records. Prepare comprehensive financial statements for internal and external stakeholders. Develop and prepare board packages, including financial reports and speaking notes for Board and Committee meetings.
Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
Financial Oversight and Coordination: Coordinate with external auditors and the Foundation Treasurer to ensure compliance and transparency in financial operations. Collaborate with external tax counsel for tax return preparation and compliance. Provide strategic financial insights and recommendations to the executive team to support long-term planning and decision-making. Participate in the development and implementation of the organization’s strategic plan.
Team Collaboration and Development: Work closely with various departments to align financial strategies with organizational goals. Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth. Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration to ensure financial considerations are integrated into program planning and execution.
Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with all federal, provincial, and state regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures. Identify and mitigate financial risks to the organization, implementing risk management strategies as needed. Stay current with changes in nonprofit accounting standards and regulations, ensuring the organization remains compliant.
Must Have Requirement:
1. Experience in financial management - 7 years
2. Experience in financial management in a Canadian nonprofit organization - 3 years
3. Proficient in financial software (non-profit)and Microsoft Excel - 5 years
4. Microsoft Excel - 5 years
5. Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
6. Must be willing to convert to full time
Nice to Have:
• CPA or equivalent certification preferred
