Description
We are seeking a Senior Application Support Engineer to support critical production systems and batch processing environments within a large enterprise setting. This role is responsible for ensuring application stability, monitoring batch operations, supporting releases, and maintaining compliance with security and operational standards.
The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in production support, batch scheduling, and application troubleshooting, along with exposure to automation and release coordination.
Location: Toronto, ON
Work Mode: Hybrid (2 days onsite per week downtown Toronto)
Duration: 6 months
Key Responsibilities
Production Support & Batch Monitoring
- Monitor and manage production batch cycles and job schedules (ESP or similar tools) to ensure timely completion of daily and monthly processing
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for job failures, delays, and performance issues
- Coordinate with Linux and infrastructure teams to review logs, system files, and configurations
- Provide on-call and weekend support during critical production and release windows
Application Support
- Support enterprise applications (including R-Wealth and R-Term or similar platforms) using user interfaces such as SSUI/AUI
- Partner with business and QA teams to validate functionality and troubleshoot issues
- Implement production fixes, configuration updates, and validation activities
- Ensure high availability and reliability of applications in production
Release Management & Deployments
- Support release cycles, version upgrades, and production deployments
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute releases with minimal disruption
- Validate deployment outcomes, configuration changes, and post-release system performance
- Ensure adherence to release governance and change management processes
Security & Compliance
- Perform periodic credential updates (database and OS passwords) in line with security policies
- Utilize enterprise credential management tools (e.g., CyberArk) for secure access
- Maintain compliance with audit, risk, and documentation requirements
Tools, Automation & Continuous Improvement
- Work with tools such as:
- GitHub (version control)
- Artifactory (artifact repository)
- Ansible / Ansible Vault (automation and configuration management)
- ESP or similar scheduling tools
- Use utilities including PuTTY, SQL Developer, IBM Personal Communications, and 7-Zip
- Identify and implement automation opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort
Collaboration & Communication
- Collaborate with Linux, DBA, QA, and Release teams to support troubleshooting and deployment activities
- Provide clear status updates, incident reporting, and technical insights to stakeholders
- Develop and maintain runbooks, SOPs, and operational documentation
Must Haves
- Strong experience in production/application support within enterprise environments
- Hands-on experience with batch scheduling tools (ESP or equivalent)
- Solid understanding of Linux systems and troubleshooting
- Experience with release management and production deployments
- Proficiency with Ansible automation
- Experience with GitHub and Artifactory
- Familiarity with CyberArk or similar credential management tools
- Strong SQL skills using SQL Developer or equivalent
