Int. Business Systems Analyst with a strong understanding of data concepts, ETL processes, and data warehousing to support our banking client's migration of data processes from on-prem (Netezza, SSIS) to AWS cloud
Duration: 12 Months
Location: Toronto, Hybrid (2x/week)
Department: Risk Data Technology - Credit Risk Data Team
Reports To: Director, Risk Data Technology
Role Overview
We are seeking a Junior to Intermediate Technical System Analyst to support our Credit Risk Data team. This role bridges the gap between business requirements and technical implementation, with a focus on data documentation, lineage tracking, and preparing our data ecosystem for AI-driven capabilities. The ideal candidate will work within agile pods to capture requirements, write user stories, and ensure robust documentation across our data transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather, analyze, and document business and technical requirements for data initiatives
- Write clear, actionable user stories and epics in Jira to drive development work
- Document end-to-end data lineage to ensure traceability and compliance
- Support the migration of data processes from on-prem (Netezza, SSIS) to AWS cloud
- Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for data pipelines and systems
- Collaborate with developers, SMEs, and stakeholders within agile pod structures
- Ensure data assets are properly catalogued and formatted for AI/ML readiness
- Participate in sprint planning, daily standups, and retrospectives
Must Haves:
Technical:
- 2-4 years of experience as a Technical Business Analyst, System Analyst, or similar role
- Strong understanding of data concepts, ETL processes, and data warehousing
- Working knowledge of SQL for data analysis and validation
- Familiarity with data lineage concepts and tools (e.g., Manta)
- Understanding of on-prem to cloud migration concepts (SSIS, AWS Glue, Redshift)
Tools & Environment:
- Proficiency with Jira for writing and managing user stories, epics, and sprint boards
- Experience working in Kanban or Scrum agile methodologies
- Familiarity with documentation tools and standards
Soft Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Collaborative mindset with ability to work across cross-functional teams
Nice to Have
- Experience in financial services, risk management, or credit risk data
- Exposure to AI/ML concepts and data preparation requirements
- Understanding of data governance and quality frameworks
- Previous experience at BMO or similar financial institutions
