Our client is an international law firm with offices across Canada, the UK, and Europe. They offer a wide range of legal services across sectors such as energy, life sciences, technology, infrastructure, and financial services.

About The Opportunity
This opening is for an ambitious Commercial Real Estate Law Clerk to join our clients Ottawa office. The Commercial Real Estate team is made up of three partners, two clerks and two legal assistants. This opportunity is also available to candidates based in Toronto who are willing to travel to Ottawa at least once a month.

About the Position
This role involves supporting legal professionals by preparing and managing corporate documents, handling administrative tasks, and ensuring the efficient operation of legal files. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience in real estate lending, and has the ability to manage multiple files unsupervised.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and manage documentation related to commercial real estate transactions, including purchase, sale, financing, and leasing agreements.
  • Conduct title and off-title searches, analyze results, and resolve issues to support efficient closings.
  • Coordinate due diligence processes, including communication with municipalities, land registries, and clients.
  • Assist lawyers with transaction closings, including preparation of closing agendas, organizing documents, and attending to post-closing matters.
  • Maintain accurate and organized electronic and physical files in accordance with firm procedures and client requirements.
  • Support a collaborative team environment while managing deadlines and multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal setting.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years legal experience as a commercial real estate Law Clerk/Paralegal in the Province of Ontario.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other Firm members, with the aptitude to take care of clients’ needs in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to provide guidance and direction to professionals, law clerks and legal administrative assistants.
  • Knowledgeable about current relevant legislation and government regulations.
  • In depth knowledge of legal terminology and principles.
  • Experience with Teraview and Conveyancer.
