POSITION/TITLE: Grade 7/ 8 Middle School Teacher

PAY SCALE: Commensurate with experience and qualifications

Adams Lake Indian Band is home to the Chief Atahm School, founded in 1991. The school is located in south central British Columbia, near the town of Chase and Kamloops.

Chief Atahm School is seeking a full time Middle School Teacher. The start date for this position is August 26, 2024. We are seeking a dynamic, creative individual with experience in planning, teaching and evaluating a Grade 7 and 8, multi-grade classroom. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable in the BC Curriculum, and Inquiry Method. The teacher will be part of a collaborative team, that plans and implements educational program based on Chief Atahm School Principles.

Chief Atahm School continues to be a parent-operated school where staff, parents and elders work together to offer the best program possible that adheres to our school’s vision, philosophy and principles. The school has the capacity to develop Secwepemc language and land-based learning resources. Currently, the school has a strong outdoor education program that includes: mountain biking, cross country skiing and hiking. In addition, the grade 7/8 teacher has access to a fully equipped computer lab., where digital technology and projects can be explored.

The successful candidate will be a collaborative educator, with outstanding interpersonal skills and a history of promoting parent and community involvement. The Intermediate teacher will be expected to take an active role in school sponsored extra-curricular activities.

Qualification and experience

Successful classroom teaching or practicum experience

Bachelor of Education degree

All applicants must be eligible for certification by the BC Ministry of Education: Teacher Regulation Branch

Must be able to obtain and provide an acceptable Criminal Records Check

Understanding of Secwepemc language, values, history and culture is an asset

Salary: Based on qualifications and years of experience
