Job Summary:

As an Environmental Lead, you will perform monitoring and reporting duties associated with the Contractor Environmental Management Plan. You will be working with the operations teams to ensure all work is completed within compliance with the project permits and client specifications. You will work with consultants and subcontractors and will be responsible for all aspects regarding the safeguarding of the environment in the day-to-day operations.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Developing and implementing all environmental monitoring and inspection programs as required under the Project Monitoring and Inspection Program - may include field supervision of contracted Environmental Monitors and the internal skilled labor team as well as implementing the environmental auditing program
  • Ensuring that the results of all monitoring, inspection and audits are reported as required under Applicable Law and to the Client
  • Stopping any or all of the Project Work if any environmental monitoring, inspection or audit indicates that the Project Work does not comply with any of Ledcor’s Environmental Obligations
  • Establish control measures that may impact air quality, land management, site inspection, waste management, water quality and wildlife management and all environmental matters and related issues in support of the project
  • Develop, administer, and maintain waste management plan (including hazardous wastes) for construction site including waste manifests, cradle to grave tracking, and overall plan administration in compliance with client expectations and applicable federal, provincial, and local regulations
  • Coordinate spill response and clean up for onsite spills
  • Prepare environmental progress reports, environmental work plans, erosion and sedimentation control plans, and other environmental documentation
  • Perform Environmental Hazard Assessments and develop Safe Work Practices and Best Management Practices when required by project team or client
  • Maintain a full understanding of the environmental requirements, including necessary permits and authorizations, best management practices, and the requirements of the Environmental Management Plan and Environmental Work Plans are in place. Work with operations management and staff to ensure compliance with these plans
  • Provide advice to the project supervisory team on the implementation of recommendations from environmental documentation, corrective actions/ resolutions, or issues that have an impact on the project including schedule
  • Provide liaison between the environmental team and the construction teams. Provide liaison with environmental regulatory agencies and report non-conformance
  • Develop the project environmental response team and ensure implementation of measures to protect the environment as indicated in the project specifications
  • Apply proactive environmental programs and strategies that ensure all effluents and waste generated by construction activities are disposed of in an authorized manner

Qualifications:

  • Registered or eligible to be registered in a related professional association in Alberta (i.e. Alberta Society of Professional Biologists, Alberta Institute of Agrologists, Eco Canada), or certified as a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control by the Erosion and Sediment Control Association of Canada
  • Two years’ experience in construction monitoring and environmental compliance will be an asset
  • Background in developing, monitoring and auditing environmental practices and performance
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant environmental and waste legislation, standards, and effective industry practices
  • Extensive knowledge of construction site erosion and sedimentation controls and BMP’s

Work Conditions

  • This role is a local position based in Edmonton, AB. Candidate should be based in Edmonton or willing to relocate to Edmonton
  • Field responsibilities throughout the year in varying weather and site conditions
